F1 2017 Qualifying AI broken/stupid fast?

I'm doing the quick shot classic championship (the one where qualifying is worth the most points). In order to be in the top 3 I have to set the AI down to the mid to low 70's because they are 2-3 seconds a lap faster when I set them to 95%. However, come race time at 95% I'm faster than the AI but a good 1-1.5 seconds. I have tried this is multiple cars as well.


For example at Mexico I was lapping in qualifying at 1:22 the AI was in the 1:20's. In the race I was racing at the 1:22-1:24 mark but the AI was lapping 1:25-30's allowing me to waltz away with victory. This was done at 90%.

Is the AI broken in qualifying?

the issue i see is that you're matching qualy pace in the race; doesn't happen irl.

Even on 25% races with more fuel, I'm slower but a few seconds but still faster than the AI by 1-1.5 seconds on the classic races? No way should I be that much faster if I was 2 seconds off the pace in quali.

i missed that it's a classic race; to me it looks like they took the margin in modern F1 & just pasted it on the older cars. can you watch the onboards in that mode? haven't checked it out yet myself
