Replace Video Card

I have an older desktop with Intel i7 920@ 2.67, 8 Gb RAM, WIN 10, and Nvidia GTX 1050Ti 4 MB, 2.0 PCI for games like rF2 and GTr2. Can I replace my Video card with a RTX 3060 Ti *GB GDDR6 without any other changes or can it be a straight swap out?

Much depends on that older desktop:
  • cooling
  • power supply: 500W vs 300W
  • physical space - some RTX 360 Ti cards are pretty large.
Adding to this @Racker2, if my memory serves me, for that age chip check that your MB even has PCIe x16 slot and if it does check is it at least Gen 3?
Gen 2 pci x16 may be too much of a bottleneck to even realize any real perf gains from the new card.

If your PSU is at least 520W, you should be able to just take the 1050 out and put the 3060 ti in. You don't even need to install a new driver or anything.
About PCI generations: some games might take advantage of PCI-E Gen 3 but most don't. And even if it makes a difference, you'll still gain a lot of fps.
So absolutely worth it, just slap a 3060ti in there, nothing to worry about!

Apart from the 520W+ PSU!! And if your PC lacks cooling, your system might get a bit hot.. But modern hardware simply throttles if that's the case so don't worry too much!

And due to the efficiency of the new cards, you'll have more fps with a throttled 3060ti at 120w compared to a 2070 that throttles at 120w.

And if it throttles: just take off the side panel for gaming, lol.
