Hot on the heels of a new build release for premium racing simulator rFactor 2, Image Space Incorporated have made available for download a new update for the much loved Renault Megane Trophy, bringing the cars to version 1.02 and adding several cool new features.

Weighing in at just 141mb, the new update can be downloaded directly from the ISI website.

Featuring 3 different specifications, namely the 2009-11 360bhp model, 2012 Evo coming in at 400bhp and an high fuel capacity endurance car for those with a taste for the long distance...

Version 1.02 brings a nice little fix allowing full 900 degrees of rotation that wasn't properly implemented for some steering wheels and moves all versions of the car to CPM tyres, bringing about some significant changes to driving technique in order to get the most out of these specialist racing tin tops.

Further enhancements to the physics introduce chassis flex and various improvements to the behaviour of the cars.

As another unexpected bonus version 1.02 uses a new 3d model, upgrading the car to the latest standards and brining to life a model that was once of the earlier pieces of content to hit the sim back in its early development.

Main changes:
  • upgraded to specification 2012 Evo (2009 spec. still available as an upgrade) along with lots of small improvements.
  • updated to ultrachassis suspension physics, which allows chassis flex. Also slightly improved suspension geometry and motion ratios.
  • uses CPM tire physics with all the latest tech, including rain tire improvements.
  • re-calculated brake system.
  • uses new 3d model, special thanks to RMT!

Don't forget to stop by our rFactor 2 Racing Club right here on RaceDepartment and join your fellow racers in some of the best content to be found in the sim!

In other news the ISI Track Team have recently released the below sneak peak of a new 3PA (third party affiliate) track image. Can you tell what it is yet...?

I had a go with the Meganes yesterday at Atlanta MP and I have to say that these cars have turned into something quite lovely. They require quite a bit of steering input on the original setup and upgrades of the car at the very least but it just feels fantastic once you get the tires to behave themselves, as the do tend to require at least 2 laps before they're up to temperatures.

Generally I'm having bucket loads of fun with it so far and it should make for some absolutely fantastic racing considering it's not that insanely fast :) . Also they just look so pretty with the new model, watching this car back on Atlanta MP just reminded me that when rF2 is on it, it just looks so clean with its graphics, even if its fidelity is not as good as some :)

Had a blast driving the new Meganes at Palm Beach. They 'feel' better as a whole and you need to really drive them with steering and throttle (and patience) to get them through the tight stuff at speed. Reduced understeer by detaching ARB in setup.
Meganes reward smooth driving and precise braking. In terms of feel they have a Flat6 vibe about them and I think even the lap times are in the same zone.
Only small downside is the AI seem a little meek at 100% and 50% aggro which I run on most rF2 cars. Will amp up the aggression. On the plus with AI they make mistakes and lose it - even had the leader get it all wrong at one point...
Very good upgrade.

Are these FWD or RWD cars?

I always thought they are FWD and was annoyed why they drive like a RWD cars. In case they are FWD I do not get the hype. (And is there any information in game that give these parameters about each car?)

I was the reverse, I didn't expect to like the Megan but was pleasantly surprised. I avoid FWD cars in my virtual world and IRL. This is one of my rF2 favorites.

They are RWD mid-engine 6-spd sequential transmission tubeframe with ground effects & wing that only bear a visual resemblance to the FWD street Megane.

From Wikipedia:

Renault Sport Mégane Trophy

Eurocup Mégane Trophy is one of the events of World Series by Renault
The Renault Sport Megane Trophy is a race version of the street vehicle, which includes a tube frame chassis with glass fibre body keeping just visual resemblance to the usual mass-production Mégane. The RS Trophy uses the considerably modified Renault Vel Satis V4Y 3.5-litre V6 engine (which is a rebadged VQ35DE of the Nissan VQ engine family) rated 330 PS (243 kW; 325 bhp) at 7000 rpm and 390 N·m (290 lb·ft) at 4500 rpm. The engine together with Sadev 6-speed sequential gearbox is placed longitudinally behind the cockpit.

The Renault Sport Mégane Trophy is not road legal and was sold for a price of €120,000. It was intended to be used for competition only in the Renault Eurocup, but cars also race in events like the Belgian Touring Car Series and the Dubai 24 Hour with it.

The second generation was shown at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and was used in the Renault Eurocup starting from the 2009 season.

Painting the cars in this mod
Have noticed driver name on rear window (see attached image)
How does one change or get rid of this?
While we at it how does one get the number on the front windscreen?

Here is a WINDOWS.dds you can adjust. Just rename "MT2013_02" with the same name as your main_body.dds. Ex: Main_bodyWINDOW.dds

Don't forget to adjust the black&white alpha channel too. ;)

Main_bodyEXTRA5.dds and Main_bodyEXTRA6.dds are for the gloves (left and right)
Main_bodyDRIVER.dds and Main_bodyHELMET.dds are for the suit and helmet.
