Slower with beamer? Loosing interest at simracing

Hi guys,

I am racing since a lot of years and have experience with a lot of games / simulations and equipment.

Actually I am running an intel system i7 7740 on a MSI Socket 2066 board, 16 GB DDR 4, Zotax GTX 1080 TI Mini. I think the computer should have enough power for my favorite games PCars, PCars 2, FH4, AC and Race 07. I am sitting in a playseat evo with Trustmaster T500 RS (complete set).

Actually I am not able to get faster than 1:55 on PCars with a GT3 car (McLaren) at Monza. I was at at 1:47 to 1:48 two - three years ago (on a i7 4790K with 32 GB, R9 390, G25 set and 24" screen and same car). Then I had to move into the upper floor and using a beamer. (Epson UB04 with full HD) As it is also our guest room and home cinema I cannot place a big screen there. First I tought I need to upgrade the computer. But this has not changed anything.

I am asking myself if the beamer could be a reason to loose a lot of seconds. I have bought an Oculus Rift and this is also not useful for me as I have to wear glasses and this is uncomfortable for me.

Normally I am driving twice per week. Sometimes only for relaxing, sometimes to see where I loose time. But also with Ghosts etc. I am not able to get back to the former level. No tips, lessons or else helped.

Could the beamer be a valid reason?

Michael

I would account this to the game evolving, they are changing physics all the time. Sometime you need to change the car settings to get back to old times, but sometimes the physics change so much that the slower lap times are the new norm.

Is your ingame wheel lagging behind your real wheel when you do quick left/right turning? You could also Google for input lag test websites etc to see if the Beamer causes input lag that is too severe to properly race!
I doubt that though since Beamers don't do post processing like modern TVs, do they?

Also don't be too harsh on yourself. Maybe you could record a good lap with shadowplay or fraps or whatever or even with a camera to let the really quick guys here have a look at your driving? :)

I used to use a BenQ HT 1075 for racing. It looks like your projector has pretty good input lag so that shouldn't be an issue. Have you adjusted the FOV settings to match your current setup. For me this made an enormous difference. I was projecting a 130" picture and was only 4.5 feet away so my FOV settings were bonkers.
