Four seasons later, 17 race wins with Honda (16 Red Bull, 1 Alpha Tauri) and a WDC. Meanwhile McLaren's best efforts with Renault were only good for 3rd in the WCC, and they couldn't get a race win until they went back to Mercedes, which is exactly where they were back in 2014. Think it's fair to say Red Bull won that trade, and McLaren blundered by giving them such a lifeline when they were previously stuck with Renault, and in the doghouse with them for badmouthing the PU so much.
Hence the question I ask in the thread title. Because the former McLaren boss deserves a statue built in his honour for helping Red Bull challenge truly challenge Mercedes for the first time in the hybrid era .
