Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that a Gran Turismo film is currently in production.

Sony would not provide any details regarding the work in progress. However The Social Network and Fifty Shades of Grey producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are rumoured to be involved.

Sony execs Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will oversee the project for the studio.

DreamWorks announced earlier this year that Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul will star in a film adaptation of their racing series, Need For Speed.

The Need For Speed film is expected to be in the same style as the games; that being fast paced and action packed, a direct competitor to the Fast & Furious films. However, if you have played Gran Turismo you'd know that it is pretty much the opposite of Vin Diesels' work. Smooth jazz in the menus, crystal clear photorealistic graphics and a general sense of refinement would suggest that this coming movie will be one of class. A film about racing, rather than a film with racing in it.

Judging by the rumours, one could assume that the movie will be reminiscent of the games. Dana Brunetti's The Social Network was a very story driven film, and certainly far from the overplayed explosion filled style that most car related films go for.

Ron Howard's Rush which is set for release this year, shows that there must be a market for motorsport films. However, we are yet to see a film in the style of Gran Turismo, and it will be interesting to see how it goes down.

Gran Turismo 6 is expected to be available towards the end of this year.

Perhaps this Sony Make.Believe commercial with Lucas Ordonez, the first GT Academy winner, will wet your appetitie for a Gran Turismo flick!

In a world where cars go 999 mph and little kids talk over chats, one man decides he does not want to do this anymore, and rage quits because he keeps losing the drag races..... This is gaming..... This, is Gran Turismo......

Im going to say it. What a load of s**t.

The games have got worse and worse, i can only see this film being total crap, just like every F and F film. I didnt think car films could be worse than those but this will be.

Rush and Senna it will not be.
