Tarmac and Tires

I'm assuming (probably incorrectly) that the average race tracks surface is a little more refined than a normal road...so will driving a car with slicks on, say, the Highlands road, punish my tires more than, say, Brands ?

In theory, yes I think so. But not so much more in general, because the wear won't be as uniform. The grip will be less too.
It seems like an interesting experiment for real life
Highlands: I don't know if AC has a tarmac "roughness simulation". I would say not

Nah, road surfaces are very smooth and less hard on the tyre surface.
As soon as you touch some high-abrasive circuit asphalt you understand very well how rugged that tarmac is: sand paper like.

But always keep in mind the distinction between wear and degradation.

Well, when riding on a track in the wet on street tires i appear to have less grip than when i ride on the road in the wet with the same tires..
how they have done it in game i have no idea..
