The VR is faster than PC2?!

Assuming they use the same base engine id have thought the speed would be similar, usually i have to turn a few things down in PC2 to achieve 90fps, but in AMS2 it was all on full blast, didnt even bat an eyelid while i was screengrabbing, (vsync'd to 90)

It is but it also doesn't look as good in my experience. The reduced quality is quite noticeable in the trees and grass and other off track objects as well as the shine on the cars. Its a different aesthetic and I prefer the performance AMS2 gives me over PC2 but its also not as good looking at its peak either.

Indeed. Being the same game engine doesn't mean they're using the same assets, models or texture qualities. The devs said themselves that there are a lot of "placeholders" in AMS 2 right now which will be replaced as time goes on. That will likely mean a dip in VR performance for some of us eventually.

I'm a fan of 2D trees and crowd, especially in VR (I know the trees rotate with your view, but I rarely notice this when racing). The performance gain as a result is great and the Pcars2 trees looked like they had tropical leaves a foot in diameter. They never looked natural. In fact, they looked "weird" and I don't miss them.

As I understand it, Rieza plan to place some 3D trees, but only in key places and I really hope they don't overdo it.

I totally agree. I don't really understand how people notice (or care about) such details when they're supposed to be racing and not admiring the scenery. I'm kind of hoping that the option to keep the "low detail" scenery remains in the game, for those of us who value performance over pixel crack.

I did a test on maxxed out settings (ultra and high AA) in VR, 150% SS in steamvr but 0% in game, and cranked up the rain, three things happened,

1: No rain on my windshield in VR, but IS on my side windows?
2: the rain falls in the car (at your feet.) (also grass shows through the floorboards sometimes like AC)
3: Track had exact same slip everywhere, no standing water or variable traction.. maybe still wip in Canada.

The impact on framerate was nill though on my machine(9900kf/2080ti/48gb) even while screen grabbing, I built a 3900x/2080s/32gb machine for my son, and it DID lag.. down to about ~70fps on same settings without screen grabbing. turning off vsync and limiting to 60fps in the nvidia driver makes it very playable though in VR.

presumably if the graphics engine is the same, rain+fog will kill framerates as it does on these settings in below (i HATE msaa, everything is blurry), but, if I am going to race fog or rain in pcars2 i turn SS off, and post aa off, and crank up the msaa to max otherwise it KILLS my framerate in play. odd;y some tracks in pcars2 affected worse than other, bannochbrae for example i can slaughter fps down to 45 on the below settings on triple screen, other "simpler" tracks are fine though.

I'm going to hazard a guess that this is deliberate, since we don't have working windscreen wipers yet. I did see rain on the visor in helmet view though.

Yeah, possibly WIP. At Donnington in heavy rain there was a puddle which sent me flying when I hit it, so if definitely works to an extent at some tracks.

An extra side note: The "Halo" in the Formula Ultimate is miles better in VR. You actually look past the thing and feel like you have an uninterrupted view because of the stereoscopic view combination. On a flat screen, its just plan annoyingly in the way.

I agree. I've never driven a car with it in 2D but imagined it must be a real pain for F1 drivers with their vision blocked. Now I know differently as it's barely noticeable under normal racing conditions.

amen, i eventually found the setting to turn it off in f2019, i had been wondering what genius thought it was a good idea to put a beam smack in the middle of your vision on the fastest cars in the world, hadnt occurred t me that "in real life" it might be ok with "real" stereo vision, for f2019, no choice, no VR, but ill give it a go in AC.
