The "What Are You Working On?" Thread

Ah the VR ... it must be amazing feeling for a mod you've made, seeing all the little details you can't see otherwise :)

how much dirt is too much dirt?

Bunch of smoothing work on the nosecone which is only really visible in this sort of closeup, and the tie-downs that hold it + the engine cover on.

So, I've only recently discovered this section of the forums here (was at a loss for WIP stuff since the official forums shuttered) so this is the first time I've seen this thing.

I.
Can't.
Friggin.
Wait.

Chevron B7 is it? Exactly what I've been waiting for. Well... I'd prefer a Brabham B29, but the Chevron is my number 2 want. ;) So excited for this thing. It's looking incredible, too.

[EDIT] Ah, had a look and it's an ol' Formula Ford. Little slower than I was hoping, but it'll still be huge fun. Still can't wait for it :D

Surely it's ready for release now.... :inlove::thumbsup:
Still doesn't have mirrors, steering column, shifter, pedals, brake lines, or an on switch... so it's not really a car yet :p

It may not be all that fast but it makes 150km/h feel fast cause your eye level's about 2 feet off the ground.

Testing more skins, important business...

Black wheels 2 seconds quicker per lap at Thomson Road, or maybe I've just gotten more practice now. It's not a lotus but I'll probably include a yellow & green skin anyway, it's a nice color combo. (not the springs though, they're matched to the frame atm but I'll probably change it)

Should figure out the deal with helmets too, give those some variety.

The silver is one sexi mama! Looks so low and wide, that's gonna quite an experience!
I'm really impressed by all the suspension, whishbone etc. all so neat! Did you bake the animation ? Or if not, how do you set the pivot/rotation point not to mess up with everything like mine did (because my solution is a bit of trickery... but it's still a little messed up)

Suspension animation's premade in Blender, I don't think I could do the coil spring or antirollbar properly otherwise since AC's "point at target" things react too slowly when you nest them. For a bit I had the steering rack with 3 parts, two tie rods and a single piece pointing from right to left, but the left end of it jiggled around a lot so I cut it in half and both halves are children of their tie rods now with the jiggling ends hidden inside the rack.

Doing it in Blender I can just rotate things around the axis they're meant to move in so I don't have to worry about lining stuff up, if I used 'point at target' I'd definitely have a hard time getting the ARB to only rotate the way it's supposed to. Gets smooth animation too.

The steering rack + axles are using dir objects as instructed in the Kunos pdf and I guess brake lines will too (need to experiment with what those actually point at though to get decent behaviour or maybe try to tuck them behind something)

Since I was asked to do it and I finally got to take the virtual brushes out, here is a WIP of a conversion from the GT Masters car of Team Herberth Motorsport to their 2017 24h of Dubai winner car. Not too much work to do now, only need to figure out what is on the drivers side of the roof front and the name of the sponsor on the front wheel vents. Something with TRACKTxNE RACE and The Art of Suspension Technology. A quick google didn´t give me results, but I might get some info about it soon.

How do you guys feel about using the LED night illuminated number plate on the quarter panel to show the #1 as a homage? Would render it pretty much useless for racing in AC, but combined with a good dirt layer, it might look good. (Not that I have any clue how to do realistic full body rubber staining in GIMP yet)

Both the LED thing and the rubber needs you to make a good rgb map to go with the skin, for it to reflect differently (or not at all) compared to the shiny paint around it.

After yesterdays plans of socialising fell flat, I tried something different. Please excuse my non-existent handling of OBS, literally installed it 5 minutes ago. I always wondered how the XRs pop up lights were supposed to work, as indicated by the body lines. This seems like an idea (that would totally mess up a GT-class car's aero, but we'll ignore it for the moment :D)

Yeah, I work with the RGB map anyway to achieve different reflection characteristics for the number plates, sponsors or different colors. Most obvious on the bigFM Schütz car, I guess, since the black part is slightly matte and the white part as well as the large logos are highly reflective, as I´ve seen it on photos of the car.

I tried achieving a rubber layer, but it looked like crap so far, might try again, but not for the release of the skin.

I´ve found out what the missing logos are and the tyres are updated, too. Just need to find a good picture of the final approval label of the 24h Series, if possible for Dubai 2017. It´s fun, though, too, doing the research.
