The GTE rim wasn't around at the time I bought this so I've no experience of actually using or seeing the GTE rim in person. However from a quick bit of research....

Real Alcantara vs "Reinforced rubber texture" (but you've already mentioned the grip)
Its 30cm diameter vs 28 for the GTE.

From what I can tell the buttons are the same or very similar.

Quoting from TM's website:
Alcantara: weighs less than 2.6 lbs/1.2 kg
GTE: Weighs more than 2.6 lbs / 1.2 kg
So looks like the Alcantara is a bit lighter.
