Thrustmaster T300RS - Wheel base not tightening

Hi Guys,
I've been using a T300 RS for several years now, but all of a sudden when I was attaching the wheel to my desk the locking nut just popped and now it won't go to full tightness anymore - it will start to secure and then reach a point where it just loses grip and goes completely loose again. This was manageable at first but now at a point where I can barely fasten the wheel and any strong turning just pops it loose again. Is this likely to be an issue with the thread in the base? Would love to hear any thoughts that don't result in me getting a new wheel base  I know it has 2 smaller screw points to be mounted to frames and things as a separate option but trying to resolve as cheaply as possible ideally.

Thanks

It's very likely that the thread in the base is gone as that's a very common problem with them. Take a look at the bolt and if the threading on that looks good and healthy then it's pretty much confirmed.

You could try wrapping some PTFE tape around the bolt threads to see if that'll give it a little bit of extra grip but that won't be a long term solution, if it works at all.

Many owners get around the problem by using the 2X M6 outer mounting points instead but it will involve drilling holes through your desk and obtaining the correct length bolts which you may not want to do if you need to remove and remount it often.

Another option is to permanently mount the base to a small piece of wood and then clamping that to your desk with C clamps. It won't look that great but it'll be easier to remove and refit as needed.

The "thread" inside the T300 base is nothing to write home about, as Paul wrote its probably stripped.

I don´t remember if it could be possibe to put in a "repair solution" by glueing/soldering in something like this:

It would be a lot of fabrication involved.

It´s probaly much easier to go for Paul´s suggestion and bolt a board or plate to the wheel base
( with countersunk bolts) and than fix that to your desk.

Most usually its the male thread that goes bad. This thread is M10 , but not really an option if you mount it often.

What I would suggest is hard mount the base in a wooden plank , and then mount the plank on the desk using woodworking clamps. This will be a much steadier mount . No more T300 moving around !
