Tips to improve graphics performance

Hello,

The PC I use for my simRig has a GTX780 TI 3GB, 12GB of RAM and an Intel I5 4590 CPU.
I'm running the setup on triple monitors (24") with a total resolution of 5760x1080.
Most of my settings are on low but despite that, I still get massive FPS dips below 30.
Sometimes the game will run nicely on 60fps but if I'm driving really fast cars or making very quick turns, the fps will drop a lot.

Is my hardware insufficient to run the game, or is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
Your hardware is insufficient to handle the game in triple screen(too high resolutio). You need a more recent high end GPU.

If it dip at 30fps in the acceptable GFX level of your liking, you need twice the GPU power. It should be around a GTX 1070 or better.
 
Yep, as the others already said:
- Reflections
- Shadows
- Only 4x or 8x Anisotropic Filtering (strangely huge performance hug)

Also you shouldn't see much difference if you turn the "glare" slider a bit down.
Motion blur and DOF are quite useless in my opinion too :)

Smoke should be disabled also as fine particles are really heavy on GPUs!
"Heat shimmering" might be good to disable for starts.

Your 780 ti has plenty of performance for Assetto Corsa! Remember that there wasn't a 8xx series! So you have a TI just 2 generations old, the 980 ti is almost faster than a 1070 and the 780 ti is a bit faster than the 970!

Yes, the resolution is massive for an older card but if you turn down the mentioned things you should have stable 60 fps :)
Also make sure to once test your fps with ALL apps disabled! They are slowing down the game engine. I have problems with containing stable 60 fps with some apps with only 20% GPU load and 30% CPU load...

Yes the 980 ti is faster in some situations. Depending on overclocking etc. It's more or less the same in the end. If OCed to the maximum with a good card, it can be consistently faster! :)

The app that kills MY frames is "Substanding". But it's the only app that shows full names, is pretty and shows even the drivers in the pit. Hosting a club event with this is so much easier as you can check everything while driving, without the need to pit.

I did a bit of digging and there seem to be two things that are slowing the processing down:

- "symbols": I think it's EVERYTHING that you SEE at the app. That's why I changed my complete HUD layout and are now using "Sidekick". The Author of it explained the symbol thing in one of his threads and Sidekick uses some kind of "merging". It combines the info of a lot of apps in as few symbols as possible. Didn't like it at first, but it's now my main app.
The downside of this "merging" is that it's impossible to adjust it to your liking. In the support thread of Sidekick you often read about deactivating certain things of it, making it smaller etc. That's no possible.

- the refreshing, internal: The realtime app is a good example for it, it refreshes quite often so it's often "in the processing pipeline". The lower the update-rate, the better for the performance.

These two things are not really increasing any CPU load, as the calculation of it isn't worth of even mentioning it. But Python seems to be a very good coding language for AC apps on the one side, a very bad running language on the other side.
It doesn't need much processing power but it seems to just takes time.

Why "Substanding" is killing about 25fps:
It has 24 drivers, pit symbol, gaps and lap times. That a ton of "symbols" AND it's refreshing extremely often!
You can put the refresh rate to a higher value but I guess it still runs on the highest rate internally...

Sorry, what's the 'Substanding' app? Not sure I've seen that, unless it's named differently? I use ptracker, and will try turning it off (though it gives most info I need on a race). Also use Statusbar but will try if Sidekick helps with performance. Thanks.
