F1 2011 Too much KERS?

F1 2011 The Game (Codemasters)
Is it necessary to use kers in practice and quals to do competitive laps? I welcome the new feature during races for the realism, but to be honest it soon gets tedious if you have to use it constantly or fail to meet objectives or post competive P and Q laps times. Are the real drivers constantly pressing the button during qualifying?

Timing DRS and KERS for the best advantage.

From watching F1 this season I've come to understand that KERS is better used on corner exit as an acceleration aid a lot of the time, rather than at the top of the gears when the limiter is fast approaching, especially if using DRS as well. I'm interested to know how people here are using their KERS - anyone have any good information on torque bands for the 2.4 V8s that would indicate where KERS might give the most advantage? I imagine IRL it varies slightly between engine manufacturers, but there is almost certainly an optimal window for combining that instant extra power with the torque curve of the engine.
