UK Computer hardware availability 2021?

Hi,

We have all seen international hardware shortages throughout 2020. With the imminent hard-Brexit being implied. What do you think will happen to stock destined for the UK in 2021?

Personally, I expect reduced stock levels through only having domestic distribution (and no stock to actually stockpile pre-transition) - resulting in longer pre-order queues, higher premiums added to physical products and more severe ebay scalping.

Whats the general consensus? I'm not trying to be a 'doomer' - just trying to gauge the reality of the new market.

Just expect to find much getting through in the first few months, maybe longer. The ports are blocked up already with the supply line backlogs and business' stocking up before January, Blame those who fell for it.

I agree. Disruption to some supply chains after a hard Brexit is inevitable, and that is sure to increase prices due to demand outstripping supply, and if components are flown in rather than shipped to bypass the congested ports. I read a story, the cost of cargo container shipping has also increased this year so that will be get passed onto the customer too. I would expect the knock-on effect will be quite positive if you're selling off old hardware though.

Had a meeting with HP with supply and demand issues post December 2020. 15 - 20 week lead time on laptops (bulk) due to Intel CPU production woes ongoing throughout 2020 putting pressure on AMD ryzen stocks. Compounded with demand for LED panels now outstripping supplies as TV 4k eats up production. They dont see any shipping issues as they use Folkestone but would expect Calais issues. Bently have also bought up a lot of 747 cargo space in 2021 to put banker on spares and component supply.
