Using a gearbox is penalizing ?

Hi, I would like to know if the use of a gearbox and clutch is penalizing. I recently bought a TH8A gearbox and a T3PA 3 pedals. Regardless of the pleasure of realism, I would like to know if it is an advantage or a disadvantage to use that. Sorry my question may sound silly but I did not find anything on the net. Thank's.
