Vertical offset between pedal deck and top of seat?

I measured the vertical offset between my pedal deck and the top of my seat (the frontmost part of my seat where my knees bend is the highest). It is 30cm (12 inches).
  1. Is that too high?
  2. Would raising my pedal deck (can't lower my seat any further) help me use less ankle and more leg when braking?
Note: I care more about long-term comfort than trying to replicate, say, an F1 driving position. Thank you in advance for the advice.

I've just measured mine and it's just 13cm on my rig and it's very comfortable and I never experience any ankle stress. Your (2) assumption is correct, I've just sat in my rig and pressed the pedals, and it's mainly knee movement and just a little ankle movement operating the pedals. This is on vertical faced pedals.

Watch the first minute of my sim rig tour and you'll be able to glimpse the seat/pedal height arrangement.

Come to think of it, I run a pedal cam too for my recordings.

I can't help but notice your decked out 80/20 rig. I'm wondering if you think the Obutto Keyboard Tray is mountable on the side of an 80/20? I figure I would just need the correct screw size and T nuts, but I don't have 8020 at the moment, so I'm not sure.

I currently have a frankenstein rig built of Obutto R3v and a NLRV3. This serves as my gaming rig as well as sim racing and flying cockpit. I'd like to carry everything over to a SimLab P1 build and the keyboard tray is my only question mark.

Thanks for your help!

I used theirs recommendation to rebuild my rig and it's much more comfortable now.

sure you can mount it to 8020, one guy already done it. Here are the pictures https://imgur.com/a/52onJ
It's from this reddit topic

You will need M8 t-nuts and m8x16mm bolts.
btw. I also have frankenstein rig: obutto r3v with some 8020

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the equipment list as well!

I think Barry from SRG was saying in one video that it's a good idea to get the pedal face plates around the same height as the bottom of the seat. Or rather, where your bum would be when you sit in the seat.

Not sure if that's exactly what he was saying but the point he was making was that the closer he gets the pedals to the bottom of the seat the more comfortable he feels driving. I would agree. Then it just depends if you want maximum comfort or if you'd rather just shoot for the correct seating position of the virtual car you're driving, for increased realism. Some rigs will allow this, most probably won't.

My GT1 chassis was my choice primarily due to the flexibility in the pedal deck. I can have it up to almost F1 style seating now that I've dropped my seat even further than it was.
