There will eventually be a thinning of the herd and standards. For the next few years there will be lots of confusion that will divide development efforts. This is one reason I wasn't thrilled when WMR came out. It was yet another set of specifications even though it is a standard.
As it is there is the whole RTX debacle. It "could" make a game dev's live easier "if" they didn't have to continue to support everyone who doesn't have RTX ie. 99% of the gamers out there.
In the end we need a common specification for everyone, but somehow we need to make progress.
It's a tough balancing act and you will never make everyone happy.
