WEC: Porsche quickest as rain hampers Practice

Porsche has closed off the first day's proceedings at Spa Francorchamps as the team to beat with their two cars topping both rain affected sessions.

In the morning session, it was the #18 car which lead the way in a session delayed after Nakajima's crash. With half an hour remaining, Nakajima collided with Oliver Jarvis' Audi landing the Japanese driver in hospital and out of the car for the rest of the weekend.

The #1 Toyota posted the second best time of the session before Nakajima's accident, ending up half a second down on the #18 Porsche, whilst the #17 Porsche wound up third.

In the afternoon it was the new #19 car that took the spoils, but little meaning can really be drawn from Earl Bamber's 2:25.495 with heavy rain greatly restricting proceedings. This time Audi was Porsche's nearest competitor with the Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer third fastest behind the #18 Porsche in second, six tenths down on Bamber. Meanwhile the #8 Audi involved in Nakajima's incident this morning failed to make it back on track.

In LMP2 the #42 Strakka Racing topped both sessions with the #38 Gibson Nissan finishing second in class in Free Practice 2. In GTE Pro Richard Lietz led the way in his Porsche ahead of MacDowall's, Rees' and Stanaway's Aston Martin, whilst the #50 Corvette was fastest in GTE Am by the time the checkered flag fell.

Free Practice 3 kicks off tomorrow at 2:00pm local time, with Qualifying starting at 6:00pm.

12° C cloudy tomorrow? I will sit on the grandstands no matter what the weather may bring us.
Eurosport is broadcasting the last two hours again as usual the last couple events. Maybe you can receive and watch Motors TV?
