What's important in a formula racing wheel?

Hi guys,

For my school project I am going to try to make a formula racing wheel from scratch.

I would like to have some feedback from the simracing community what the most important aspects of a formula sim racing wheel are.

What are the most important aspects to you? Things like:
  • Looks
  • Accessibility
  • Display (yes/no)
  • Shift LEDs (yes/no)
  • Size
  • Comfort
  • Functions (buttons, rotaries, magnetic shifters, etc.)
  • Connectivity
  • Weight
  • Other
Please leave your feedback in the comments below. When I am finished with my project, I will be happy post the result here.:)

Thanks,

S4nder

Looks are always a good thing because I want my whole rig to look nice when I am not racing. But comfort and functions come first, I do not care for LEDS anymore as I race in VR.

Which type of rim are you making i.e. based on what real life counterpart? :)

I am currently designing my own Corvette GTE rim but the cool thing about designing your own rim is that you can always put a twist on it. I am going to make mine mixture of these two rims:

As its my first attempt I will not use high quality materials just mediocre ones.
