Wheelbase fans

Last night whilst I was delving into my pc case with my canned air and toothbrush, cleaning my fans from the crap they pick up over time and it occurred to me that I have never cleaned the fans on my wheelbase so I was wondering if its considered a good thing to dismantle the base to give the innards the once over?
Any help appreciated.
