PC1 Will Project Cars have dedicated servers?

I have seen that video on a couple of sites now .. has anyone actually tested it? I mean .. it looks promising but then again so did the stills from baywatch.
Looks like a great engine for GTA like games for sure judging from the material they supply. Simulations generally need more fidelity though. And of course someone who actually builds cars who live up to that fidelity :)

The technology does not exist to have a true "sim". Games have slightly different ideas about what is a decent enough approximation of a real car through a very basic set of controls. I see people on different threads criticising the handling of everything from iracing to AC to pcars without I dare say much actual ammunition. I can enjoy a go on any of them without getting too worked up about the finer details. If that makes me a pleb then so be it. Just don't see the need for the constant vitriol.

Fair point and I'd agree that the pcars goalposts have probably been moved somewhat since the original concept. I reckon they were probably aiming for something along the lines of AC or Simraceway and it's all got a wee bit out of hand. Whilst I wouldn't say corners have been cut, compromises have possibly been made to appeal to a larger audience. I can therefore understand some people's frustrations though not to the extent that appears to exist here.

It remains to be seen how the PC version drives of course, but it would seem close to unbelievable that SMS would build Shift3 with funding from the community, as they could've got a publisher with a half a brain to fund a decent driving game, otherwise those who invested towards a sim feel like dills.

Anyway, Ian said new physics for the PC are being developed, so I'm happy to wait it out.

Me too, actually. I'm not going to complain about the physics any more until we either:

A) get the revised system into the project

or

B) it becomes abundantly clear that a totally redone physics engine is not going to appear.

I'm willing to take them at face value for now, despite everything that's happened.

Exactly. That's what I ment with "fidelity". But I must say it doesn't look bad and there are a few things on their feature list which can't be build with some reknown sims like up to 25 gears :)

I put my hopes in to the new physics they try because visualy the game is verry nice looking and i will keep my finger cross for this to work and give that SIM feeling we all waiting for.If its still not right, than i wait for them to release a Demo and try it for the last time so i can make a final decision on the product.

Generally speaking, real sims are usually PC exclusives and have the best combo of physics, FFB and steering precision.

Lately however, there's been a trend of calling anything a sim, and ignoring or being ignorant of the fact that some modern games still can't out drive the lowly GTR2 demo from 2006.

I wish I could Like this post 10 times. All of it.

You know what Ian, I don't care if it's free or it costs 10 euro's. The money side of things don't matter to me (unlike some of your investors and Publicity specialists) but go on then, change my mind. Let me see the discussion side of things (that really appeals to me) and let me try the latest builds in my own time. I will report here truthfully. If anything, it will upset Micas and this chap Klazerman who ever he is.

I await your invite. Nervously. :whistling:

Still waiting Mr Bell. :whistling::whistling::sleep:

Please PM me your email address you want to use and I'll get it set up.

Will do Ian, but remember, I have been a project team member previously, and banned. Do you want me to send you my user name as it still shows me as banned? ;)

I want you to try to follow our posting rules, see that you're part of a development team and post in kind. If you can do that I would really like your passion to be on the inside pissing out so to speak. AJ is a superstar IMO when it comes to car physics and he's hard at work on the new engine. You can follow his progress in his own thread as well as experience it when it starts to come live. This will happen in stages. If you still think it's crap then it probably is.
