Will you buy a RTX 3070?

I intially said yes, but seeing that there’s very likely going to be a 3070ti with 16gb of VRAM which will be a lot more futureproof, I may well hold off until then.

Whatever happens, I’ll be getting one of the 30 series cards, because they’re the first HDMI2.1 cards which means I can go for 4k120hz in Assetto Corsa, and pretty much any of the cards should manage it.

As for the launches, Nvidia have been stockpiling all the retailers for the last couple of months. As there’s been very limited availability of the 80 and 90 cards, one would assume that most of that stockpiling has been 70 series cards, which is what I’d expect since it’s the one they’ll want to sell in real volume.

it all depends on release date
October 15th ....

The main takeaway when buying any hardware nowadays, is not to just wait for the benchmarks, but to wait for the purchasing public to feed back...
That has always been my view...especially for revolutionary changes in hardware.
You never buy any new CPU, Motherboard or GPU on day one.
It is always better to get a sampling of feedback from the early adopters.
It is reason enough to see which brands have better reliability and are performing best overall.
Nvidia and it's AIBs will get it sorted at some point but it'll be a huge 'hit' to consumer confidence.

If you look at all of the people who have switched from Intel to AMD the last couple of years, Ryzen on its own would never have been compelling enough to convince those people to change. Bad decisions and misfortunes at Intel did more for Ryzen than AMD's marketing department ever could have.

Now Nvidia is heading the same way. If you look at the benchmarks in this thread, the Radeon 5700XT is included. Ok, its a mid tier card but it's available for sub $400 and is trading blows with cards that cost $5-6-700+. The value proposition is enormous.

If big navi delivers on performance AND cost, offering people a genuine value for money alternative, NV is at risk of gifting away a fair portion of it's loyal customer base Intel style. NV users are occasionally interested by AMD cards, but will pretty much always go with NV. This may not always be the case though.

How many AMD shares can you get with a 3080 refund? Might be worth skipping a generation!

I typically buy the xx70 series because it usually offers the best value versus performance.
My previous GTX970 and the follow-up 1070 offered really good performance.
That said...I will probably skip 70 series in favor of something a bit higher up the order this time around.
I'll do that because the higher performing series is an insignificant amount beyond what I typically spend for the 70 series this time out.

Even if I were buying the lower tier this time out, there is no way I would buy any of those cards over the factory xx70FE....not at those prices.
We've seen sub-par components in many of the already released AIB RTX3080 cards.
Those are suspected of causing the instability and drop to desktop issues.
The retail Nvidia xx70 card is listed at $499 and by all accounts, has better components than most AIBs.
Why would I pay in the most extreme case listed, as much as $154 more to any AIB.
That cost is rapidly approaching RTX3080FE sale price, which has 2 more gb of VRAM and a faster core.
You'd need to have your head examined for doing that.

Im waiting for AMD and Navi also waiting on nVidia stock of 3080 with more than 10gb !
Yes, the 20GB 3080 seems to me anyway the sweet spot of performance...although with the extra 10GB of Vram I think the price will increase significantly over the 3080 10GB.
I my country the RTX 3080 10GB is selling for around $1500 and the RTX 3090 has a list price of $3499:confused::confused:...so I suspect the 3080 20GB variant will possibly be in between these to amounts in my country....will have to wait and see.

Jesus!
Where do you live?
What's the rate of exchange versus the US dollar?
That seems like a lot of money compared to the MSRP...unless you have something like a 2 to 1 ratio.
12-14 GB would have been perfect for the 3080 at release.
I too am looking to see what RDNA2 has to offer.
I'll also wait a few weeks after the initial release to make sure they're no underlying issues.
If it and the drivers are good, I'll then evaluate between the 6900XT and the RTX3080...but only if a higher VRAM is offered at that time.
I don't need all the bells and whistles of ray tracing or DLSS, just pure speed in rendering.
Above all, I need extremely smooth, stutter-free gameplay.

LOL:roflmao:...just my countries initial Online Computer store list prices, hopefully they will drop as I did check my banks conversion and they are adding some profit margin in there for sure;)...'out of stock' at the moment though :roflmao:

Nvidia delays RTX 3070 launch to October 29th
Nvidia has delayed the launch of its upcoming GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card so there’s more stock available on launch day. Writing in a blog post, the company admitted that the news “may be disappointing” to some, but said that “this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.” The graphics card will now launch on October 29th, rather than October 15th.

Proshop, an online retailer in Denmark, has updated its status on RTX 3090 and 3080 shipments and includes a new chart with RTX 3070 statistics (via Golem). RTX 3080 and 3090s are selling like hotcakes, but as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a recent Q&A, there's nowhere near enough volume being produced to satisfy all customer orders for at least a couple more months.

It appears Nvidia's decision to delay the RTX 3070 launch was a smart decision. Proshop has ordered 4,280 AIB partner cards in total. Of that, fewer than 300 of the units are incoming or have been received by Proshop. Hopefully, manufacturer production will ramp up as the weeks goes by, but if volume maxes out at just a few hundred cards per week, the 3070 will sell out just as quickly as the 3080 did at launch.

The RTX 3080 results are the worst with over 2,500 customer orders for AIB partner cards. For Proshop, barely two hundred 3080s are incoming or have been received. Asus is taking most of the brunt, with orders for its TUF and TUF OC 3080 far exceeding all other AIB partner cards at over two thousand orders alone. That's no surprise given that the RTX 3080 TUF is one of the best-built AIB partner designs to date and comes with a competitive price tag. Out of those two thousand orders, Proshop has less than fifty in stock and a measly 53 units incoming. It's safe to say most customers will wait months for their orders to be fulfilled.
