this from the wrc homepage:
This year’s WRC drivers’ title race has featured more twists and turns than a stage at the Tour de Corse. But what are the chances of the championship going down to the very last stage of the season? Well, it’s not as far-fetched as you might think…
After gazing into wrc.com’s crystal ball and counting on all the fingers at our disposal, we’ve worked out how the three-way title race could be decided during a winner-takes-all Power Stage finale at Kennards Hire Rally Australia (15-18 November).
As things stand, Hyundai's Thierry Neuville leads the title race with 189 points, Sébastien Ogier is second with 182 and Ott Tänak third on 167. But we’ve calculated how they might all head into the Power Stage at Coffs Harbour on the same number of points – 222. Ready? Let’s go...
Firstly, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Tänak must win this weekend’s RallyRACC Catalunya – Rally de España and score maximum points in the Live TV Power Stage. We also need M-Sport Ford World Rally Team driver Ogier to finish second in Spain, and claim four extra points, while Neuville must finish third and collect three bonus points.
If this comes to fruition, and the overall top three after the penultimate stage in Australia is Tänak, Ogier, Neuville, then each driver will start the season-ending Power Stage on course for the same points total of 222.
That would mean the title will be won or lost during the 7.18km Wedding Bells18 test. What a finale that would be – ding dong!
