Formula 1 enters the season finale of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the driver’s championship leaders tied on points.

After a roller coaster ride of a season in F1, the final event of 2021 will be held in Abu Dhabi and will decide the championship battle between Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers are even on points entering the race.

Verstappen has won more races this year than Hamilton, so if the two end up finishing even after this race due to neither scoring points, the championship would go to Verstappen. Momentum seems to be with Hamilton after back-to-back-to-back race wins in Brazil, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, though points momentum has never lasted long this season.

The Yas Marina circuit is a location where both drivers have won in the past, with Hamilton having won numerous times at the track, and Verstappen being the most recent winner. The layout has been altered for 2021 to encourage more overtaking.

Looking away from the feature act of this race weekend, the constructor’s battle between Mercedes and Red Bull seems to be all but decided, with Mercedes holding a 28-point advantage. With Hamilton and Verstappen cancelling each other out on points, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas have been involved in a lower profile battle than their teammates, but one full of surprises just the same.

This will also be the last time we see certain drivers in F1, or the last time we see them with their current teams. Perhaps the biggest departure is Kimi Räikkönen, who will retire from driving after Abu Dhabi. Kimi’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, will also vacate his F1 seat after this season and will race in Formula E next year instead. One of the Alfa Romeo team seats will be filled by Bottas, who will finish this year third in the driver’s standings. His current seat at Mercedes will be filled by George Russell.

This looks to be an exciting finish to a season filled with drama and shocking moments. Let’s hope that we see the best from each of the championship contenders this weekend.

Max Max Max SuperMax!
Way to do it! I didn't expect it, but these last 2 quali laps remind me of Alonso in 2012, really overperforming the car (engine)

I'm getting so sick and tired of the booing, wether it's towards Lewis or Max... I always loved how racing fans could sit among eachother and enjoy themselves, now it's becoming more and more like football which is just sad. can't deny that the dutch fans have had some influence in this but i hope that the actual fans know better than this :(

penalty time?:

Alonso, Gasly, Ocon, Ricciardo and Vettel all summoned to the stewards over alleged impeding in final qualifying

Perez may have just given Max his first title; why did Mercedes not have Valtteri tow Lewis?

The best ones to influence them not to boo are Max and Lewis. Just grab the mic and say stop booing my rival

I wan't Max to win, he is the better driver a little dirty but that is racing. Lewis has done the dirty mouve now and then jusst ask Jenson Button and Alex Albon. Its to easy to pick Lewis becuse he has the most championships. And i like to against the grain and pick somone who knows how to manage their tires. And can take a penalty without wineing and moaning. Lewis as a celebrity in the public eye uses his position to primote stuff inside F1. This should be done away from the sport once he has hung his helmet up. So he is using his politics as a distraction from what he is payed to do. He should just get in the car and drive and put his fashion and BLM and stuff on the side and keep it out of F1. This politics dose not belong in sport.

It was not only the tow of Perez (0,2 secs). Also sector 3 Max was 0,2 secs faster on own power.
Perfectly executed tow. Well done Perez. Indeed wondering why Bottas didn't/couldn't (?) do the same
Perhaps they found it more valuable to try and get bottas in p3.

F1 is and was always about politics. Thats just how it is sadly.

Just heard commentary between Button and Rosberg that getting a good tow needs practice,
which Mercedes has not done. Red Bull has simply tried harder and delivered.

For the first time ever, I am rooting for Lewis. I think it is a certainty that Max will be the champion someday. I just hope that it will not be this year. God Save the G.O.A.T.!

Perez P4 ahead of Bottas P6 is a good advantage for max starting on softs. The mercedes pace over race distance could still be stronger. It will be an interesting race for sure.
