Who will win the Belgian Grand Prix?

Summer break is over, and F1 is back on track at Spa Francorchamps with bad weather looming.

The 2022 Formula 1 championships may be comfortably in-hand for Max Verstappen and Red Bull, but fans will still be excitedly tuning in this weekend as F1 aims to make amends for a disappointing 2021 race at Spa. 2022 could also be the last race we see at Spa for a while.

Last season's Belgian race fell in the midst of a heated battle between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but no racing was actually done at Spa. Heavy rainfall caused the race to be red flagged after 3 of the scheduled 44 laps. Each lap was run behind a safety car. This event was further controversy for Spa after several major safety incidents, and may have contributed to its rumored imminent removal from the F1 calendar.

For 2022, both the drivers and constructors championships seem to be secured. Red Bull's consistency near the top of the field throughout the season has allowed him to build a comfortable lead over an inconsistent Ferrari team and a Mercedes team that has yet to find a competitive pace.

Sebastian Vettel's farewell tour has just nine race dates left. The four-time drivers champion remains a fan favorite, even in the midst of a difficult season with Aston Martin.

Current McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo and future F1 driver Oscar Piastri were among the most discussed names over the summer break. The former is rumored to be losing his seat in the near future, and the latter will likely be promoted from his reserve driver role soon. Piastri famously quashed the announcement of his agreement with Alpine to replace Fernando Alonso next season.

Rain is in the forecast for Spa this weekend, though it is unlikely to be as disruptive to racing as it was last season.

What are your expectations for the race this weekend? Who do you think will be standing on the podium Sunday? Let us know in the comments below.

Alonso just sits around thinking about how much he hates Hamilton for beating him as a rookie driver and taking his team away from him. He'll never forgive the guy for that.

It seems like they’ve screwed up so much now they are too scared to make a call, which is even worse. The drivers job is to drive, the strategist have the information to decide when to pit and what tire to use. If the driver has additional feedback, let him raise that himself, don’t make the driver also play the role of the strategist. And you follow that up with the ridiculous pit stop for fastest lap.

Theyve built a great (and beautiful) car, but the team is horribly incompetent.
Amazing when one remembers that Ferrari was by far the best team for strategy when Todt and Brawn were in charge.

Speeding in the pitlane whilst trying to attempt to attack the fastest lap. Ferrari 2022 season in a nutshell.

you what is more funny? they know that the pit speed sensor was broken since the strap visor get stuck in brake duct...
Incompetence 101...

I dont like Alonso, but that was a class bit of radio ranting

- Other than that, and the Hakkinen/Schumacher'esqe pass, it was fairly dull, mostly because the Redbull is in a totally different world to anyone else. I mean, Verstappen could have started near Stavelot and still won.
- Perez has gone back to shite again
- Ferrari is getting slower...
- ...but they still know how to **** up something or other
- Hamilton's sense of awareness in CQB in alarmingly poor (probably from being used to run 1st)
- Haas ungodly shite all weekend

the right sum of the race. Anyway i'd add it was nice to see some overtakes outside DRS zone. Along with Vettel and Albon performance.

Yeah, I'm sure Alonso wasn't really mad about Hamilton ramming him on lap one, he was really carry a grudge for Lewis taking the tiebreaker from him 15 years ago... for second place.

The mental gymnastics people go through to defend their heroes is astonishing.

Well after a very promising start to the season, it's threatening to be a dominant Redbull now. It's a shame IMO. Seems like Merc moaned...FIA changed things...RB complained a bit back, changed the car...did some test and must have gone "fark me...the cars even better this way!". Ferrari did their usual tricks, some heads are going to have to roll.

Do you suppose Ferrari is lucky to have a championship winning car or unlucky in the seemingly questionable pit wall and driving decisions/indecisions. Seems like the folks in Maranello got it together only to have their efforts squandered by the folks at the track and in the car.

I wouldn't call that unlucky. It's organizational incompetence.

The more I've learned about F1 history, the more I understand how much the Schumacher years were an exception in Ferrari history. The combination of Schumacher, Todt, and Brawn was powerful enough to overcome the complete organizational insanity and incompetence at Maranello.

Nothing wrong with the car it would appear, fundamentally anyway. It is just the poor team operations (management?) and strategy. Italians do seem to have some "Keystone Cops" in their DNA.

He didn't just show the poor guy up he took his team from him. The guy is bitter period. Probably can't stop thinking about how much he hates him.

So, you see Alonso get pissed directly after Hamilton crashes into him…. And your conclusion is the reason Alonso is pissed is not because Lewis rammed him but rather because of 15 years ago???

Thats really what you’re going with?

Alonso's comments were from a man with pinned up anger over the years. I'd be willing to bet the guy probably felt some kind of weight lifted from his shoulders having vented the way that he did.

I see that the latest batch of comments were removed, included my reply. Good for the mods, it was going to get nasty.

Spa was exciting to watch ... the very first lap. Then Redbull got wings, Ferrari did their usual and Russel was being Russel as all season long.
Oh and Haas ... well, if Latifi would be equal to Albon, Haas would've only raced each other. How I hoped the season would be stronger for them after Bahrain results ...
