2022 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix

As Formula 1 rolls into its most famous race location, there is a new name on top of the driver's standings.

Ferrari and Charles Leclerc will be hoping that there is no such thing as a curse, as the Monegasque needs to regain some momentum in the championship standings on his home turf. His string of unfortunate finishes on home turf is well-known in the Formula 1 space, and includes five consecutive DNF's dating back to his time as a driver in F2.

For the first time following a race this season, Leclerc is not atop the drivers' standings. Max Verstappen of Red Bull complained about his failing DRS system at the Spanish Grand Prix, but still managed to score a strong victory. His teammate, Sergio Perez, was understandably frustrated in being asked to let Verstappen through in Spain. The pair have put their team ahead of Ferrari now by a margin of 26 points.

Mercedes seems to have finally found a competitive pace, with drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton both finishing in the top five in Spain, and nearly taking the third and fourth spots before cooling issues forced Hamilton to ease his pace in the final laps.

Lando Norris continues his strong season in the McLaren and finds himself 7th in the standings, while his teammate Daniel Ricciardo continues to struggle and has no scored a point since his home race in Australia.

The new regulations this year gave teams a chance to advance themselves within a field that had become stagnant in recent years, and this has created a fascinating midfield battle. Below the Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes cars which occupy the top six driver spots in the standings, five different teams occupy the next five spots. Norris, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen and Yuki Tsunoda rank 7th through 11th for McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Haas and Alphatauri respectively.

Monaco is F1's most famous race, but not known as a great site for overtaking. The new regulations aren't expected to change that, but the 30-50% chance of rain on race day just might.

Give us your thoughts on this year's Monaco race, or anything else relating to F1 so far this season in the comments below.

As a boy I will never forget watching Bandini burn to death in that horrible wreck. TV coverage rules have changed since then.

Without wanting to neglect such a tragic example then you can allways find such an example.
Recently I heard about a man that became paralysed just after falling down a short staircase.

It's really a joke. Such sissies. Why do they have rain tyres if the FIA waits so long to start the race until people can use the inters..bloody joke.

Oh man - what happened Kevin?:(

Haas report that a water pressure loss was behind Magnussen's retirement.

EDIT: And now Schumacher retired too - in solidarity to Kevin?
No not a team order obviously. Mini Schu lost the car completely. Driver license?

Team order? :roflmao:
I was thriller to see a low/ middle team like HAAS surprising everyone and moving to the best of the rest and compete with teams like Alpine and Mclaren. Now I don't think they will have any budget left to develope the car for the rest of the season. (Also what happened to Kmag?).

Ferrari, that call to double stack was a bad idea....then they changed their minds last minute...Leclerc may have lost the win after this red flag now that the Red Bulls can put on hard tyres for free (I know anything can still happen but yea)

LH was lucky as always (always through the years) to get a free front wing repair no time penalty.
Before the race start I wanted to say that I expect Ferrari to be 1-2 except if they acted Ferrari.
If they restart with DRS, it will be like a second race, (no matter if dry or no overtakes, but at least there will be racing of some kind). I have a feeling they will call it a day.
Ps: And why the rolling start? FIA doing their best to fight racing?

Ferrari again on a mission to ruin their drivers' races with strategy - or whatever they call this...

you can also see that Redbull just made that decision and didn't wait but went on the attack
they went into the pitt before

About 40 minutes of racing. About 25 laps. What tyres would you use if you were a team strategist? S, M or H.

At least they have to rethink if Schumacher is worth it - because you are probably right that Schumachers completely destroying of 2x cars is close to push the small team closer to backrupcty.
Worst thing is that no sign of much speed in the young man
