Audi and Porsche could be on their way to Formula One. There’s news circulating online that Volkswagen will give the go ahead for the two manufacturers to enter the spear point of motor racing. There’s also been an announcement that Las Vegas will host a Grand Prix from 2023 - this will be the third race in the USA, joining Texas and Miami.

Audi and Porsche to enter F1

Audi and Porsche owner Volkswagen is likely to give the green light for the two brands to make their entry into motor racing’s Formula One at a meeting next week, two sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

”We will hopefully be able to communicate our intention to enter into Formula One then,” one of the sources said, with the second adding there was a ”good chance” of a positive decision.

Volkswagen declined to comment. The news was first reported by Business Insider.

There has been talk of Audi and Porsche forming partnerships with existing Formula One teams for a long while now, their most likely method of entry into the highest class of international racing.

It is regarded by many that Audi will buy out McLaren and Porsche are set to strike a long-term partnership with Red Bull.

A source told Reuters in November that Volkswagen’s ultimate decision will rest on whether Formula One follows through on its plans to switch to synthetic fuels by 2026, and on McLaren’s progress regarding electrification of its vehicles.

Las Vegas to host Grand Prix

The track will include part of the famous Las Vegas strip, it will be 3.8 miles long, and it will be at night!

F1 president Stefano Domenicali said: "This is an incredible moment for F1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the US."

There will be three main straights and 14 corners, which will include a single chicane section and a sequence of high speed corners.

The race will be promoted in partnership with some of the major casino and hotel groups in the city, including; Caesars Palace, Wynn Las Vegas, MGM and the Venetian.

They could have chosen to race on a proper race track like Road America, Mid-Ohio, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta or Watkins Glen. Instead, F1 is choosing to race on city circuits in exotic locations (i.e. Miami, Las Vegas). Money talks I guess?
those are not of high enough Grade for F1, which means changes, which means money, risk and most likely making those tracks worse, so no thanks I am totally fine with F1 making their own tracks in the US and leaving the good ones alone

Vegas, no. The place is so overrated it's ridiculous. Even for gambling. It is living on past reputation and marketing hype. They had better hope Lake Mead still has enough water by 2023 enabling Vegas to still be there.
Have you ever been there? LV and the US have many faults but I can't deny that it will be an amazing show and one of the tracks with the best visuals by far. I dislike the addition of Miami, but Las Vegas has potential to be one of the coolest GPs in some aspects

Kinda agree, these are all rich people's places indeed.
But to be honest I'd rather see more races in the US than in the Emirates' deserts.
Absolutly. I agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. God bless America. You beauty.

None of those tracks would meet f1 standards, and upgrading them to F1 standards would ruin the character of those tracks. they would become wide, glass-smooth boulevards and become just driving circuits instead of racing circuits. Could you imagine Mid Ohio with the Madness section flattened or the entrance to Thunder Valley being smoothed? <shudder> Let the world have those sleep inducing, DRS dependant monstrosities. I'll enjoy Indycar, Imsa etc actually racing on those great 'Merican tracks.

F1 has destroyed enough tracks in Europe, I don't want them and Tilke's hands defiling any of us yanks' amazing racetracks. COTA existing is bad enough.

New automakers coming in and a new track, very good. But the calendar doesn't have room anymore, who's going to leave for Las Vegas to enter, Spa? I don't want iconic circuits like Spa and several others to leave to enter tracks in america and arab emirates.
Spa just invested 80 million on their track updates, only to hear it might be their last year in F1.
New locations are bidding to obtain a spot on the calendar.
But I think we have more than enough of these artificial city tracks.
It's turning F1 in a rentable circus.

Las Vagas is a good place for a Grandprix, It has been done before. Te whole city is about tourism and hotels and gambling. Many musicians and entertainers perform on the Las Vagas strip. I can see race fans in a hotel watching event on big monitors and belting on the result like a horse race. Not for me as i am not a gambling man.

As for Porche or Volkswagon geting into F1 it can happen. They tried a run at INDY but they wanted to do something highbrid (Electric motor and combustion engine) F1 is looking into alternative ways to power cars in the future. I am thinking a electric motor on the front wheels that kicks in at slow speed for cornering grip and a combustion engine that goes constant. So at top speed its just rearweels pushing car.

SPA mainly did it for bikes, to allow "top level" bike races to come back, hence all the gravel now present

I wonder if the reason the teams have been hesitant to approve Michael Andretti's request for a team in F1 is due to Audi/Porsche getting involved. Even if they merely merge with existing teams, they may not want Team Mario Jr. diluting the prize money.
