Originally scheduled for release towards the end of March, the Classic Nürburgring in Automobilista 2 finally has some teaser shots. Is it releasing this weekend?

Last month, Reiza Studios released the final piece of the Historic Track Pack puzzle for Automobilista 2. Alongside a large update came a classic version of Bathurst. With the update also came the promise to release a classic version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife and Sudschleife.

With sudden plans to include the long-forgotten southern layout, Reiza said it would take longer than expected and teased an end-of-March release. That deadline has been and gone, but we finally have news on the upcoming circuit. Recent tweets from the Brazilian developer not only showed screenshots of the historic version of this iconic venue, but also featured a caption.

Reading "This weekend..." the tweet certainly points towards a release for the track before next week.

AMS 2 is increasingly becoming the go-to simulator for historic content. From accurately recreated tracks to a wide array of detailed historic grids, the title has certainly come of age and found its niche.

The historic version of the Nürburgring should align with many other 'time machine' tracks. Set in the year 1971, it sits in the same time period as many other forgotten layouts featuring in the sim. The long version of Spa-Francorchamps, fast variant of Imola and a representation of Monza with its banking in use all sit in the early 1970's.

Automobilista 2 also features a selection of early-1970's F1 cars to run around these vintage tracks. With custom championships available to create, there are huge single player possibilities on the horizon for this upcoming addition to the game.

Are you excited for a classic version of the Nürburgring to join AMS 2?

ONWARD TO MY DOOM! MY LOTUS AWAITS ME!

I'm not convinced whether the Lotus 23 is currently among the best cars in AMS2, but lapping the historic Nürburgring in the Lotus 23 ought to serve as quite the referendum on the current status of affairs. Let the Madness ensue....

How much does the old circuit layout deviate from the modern day version, completely different, a few recognisable sections or practically the exact same route?

roughly the same route, but many safety improvements to the shoulders and track surface has changed. Heck, it is different now from just 2018 when S397 scanned the track. If you are familar with the GPL layout that has been cloned to almost every sim(sorry ACC) you shouldn't find a historic Ring much different.

It's a Umlaut in german wich has no english translation.Same with ä,ü,ö.
Nürburgring ---- Nuerburgring

My biggest hope is that the postponement has been primarily due to my own and other simmers' persistent cough about a burning desire for a credible authentic track surface.
So many 'classic' tracks from official sim releases through the years, but hits me when speaking authentic bumby and dusty track surface I still have to dig up GPL or fine classic track mods for rF1 and AC, where modern sim classic tracks are with almost as 'perfect' surface as modern day tracks and, hence, the point of historic immersion is missed severely.

The '70s version was drastically smoothed from the '50s-'60s version with completely new underlayment and paving, so it's not going to be bumpy like you're thinking.

Still there's an eternity of a long way up to modern day super-smooth surface tracks.

You are right about the conversion years - from tarmac and dusty gravel to asphalt pavement.

However, a non-negligible note; asphalt is not just asphalt. As well as curbs are indeed very different through decades. Witnessed myself as attendant spectator since early '80s.
Just speaking within Nürburgring, just compare 1983 bumby surface to Nordschleife 2023 track surfaces and much more forgiving curbs. Still completely different worlds.
Which is still crucially important to bear in mind, when trying to preserve motorsports history through simracing, as here.
And even more pronounced comparing 1983 surface with the late years Südschleife last time was used for racing, now more than 50 years ago. Both were paved with asphalt (seasoned with concrete at more sections).

Should mention that besides spectator role, been behind the wheel myself at various European trackday events since early '90s. If we again still just stick to Nürburg, to me Nordschleife anno 1999 was quite different to my next visit in 2010. And then compare with e.g. 1983 Derrick Bell Porche 956 onboard lap (available at YT for years), even though he mentions, while flooring uphill Kesselchen, that the viewer misses the absolutely bumpiness of the track, still the camera was shaking. And a very different world to my own 2010 experience with very much smooth surface all around (as vwell as alot of other safety improvements for unexperienced 'track heroes').

This can never ever be compared to modern day track "perfect surface" and forgiving curbs.

There once was an article here at RD asking users what drives them into our world. This is what drives me, far beyond anything else, and really delighted when a classic design with classic potholes, non-forgiving curbs and other irregularities is modeled thrustworthy (often requiring quite some historic research, yes), leaving much more up to man and machine than crusing round perfect track surface and forgiving curbs.

Could be worse..

As for how the members of MÖTLEY CRÜE decided to add the umlauts to their name, singer Vince Neil recounted: "I can remember it like it was yesterday. We were drinking Löwenbräu, and when we decided to call ourselves MÖTLEY CRÜE, we put some umlauts in there because we thought it made us look European. We had no idea that it was a pronunciation thing. When we finally went to Germany, the crowds were chanting, 'Mutley Cruh! Mutley Cruh!' We couldn't figure out why the **** they were doing that."

Regarding accents, I remember when Milestone tried installing "Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO" into a folder with the accent intact by default, then people found the game wouldn't work or load/save wouldn't work or something.

In computing, accents can cause troüble!

Anyone still use GPL and AMS2? I haven't played GPL in literally years and years. I remember it being way harder than recent sims RF2 and AMS2 versions of the cars. Is it still the same core game? I'd imagine I'd make a better go of it in the AMS2 version compared to GPL as it always felt like a massive achievement to do a clean lap in GPL.
