rFactor 2 GT3 update announced for February 7th

GT3-Update-4-1.png
Studio 397 just announced a significant updated that will enhance all the 14 GT3 cars available in rFactor 2 that will see important physics changes affect the category.

Here is a list of all the announced changes and additions:
  • new tyre model
  • tender spring support (tender spring is a term that often designates a smaller, secondary set of springs mounted on a shock that is usually of a softer rate than the main spring and serves to soak high frenquency bumps and curbs)
  • traction control update
  • ABS update
  • downshift protection
  • sound update (integration into the new sound engine)
  • updated BoP
Studio 397 advertises that this will affect the way cars need to be driven, stating racers will need to adjust their driving style and setups accordingly. They also say the addition of shift protection to these cars will prevent unrealistic use of rapid fire downshifts to achieve unrealistic stopping distances - a tactic widely used by the fastest players in games without the feature, such as Gran Turismo.

Overall, this update should make GT3 cars "a richer, more immersive driving experience" and generally more accurate, as per the devs' words.

No question at the end of the thread so it's a free for all. And since all the commenters above have been waiting for some complaint, here I go.

I would appreciate if the graphics were brought up to the latest standards. S397 has demonstrated that they can create very authentic looking dash displays, so whatever the M6, 911 GT3R, etc. have is no longer an excuse.

And that is a perfectly legitimate comment that is not only On Topic but On Target.

No complaints, it's free. Just wondering where the funds are coming from to support S397,
MSG paid several million of the agreed upon 5.5million US Dollars early on in the take-over. I am not sure if they ever completed the entire amount. Since most of the progress rF2 has seen has come AFTER the purchase, one must assume S397 received enough funds to begin these large core updates. (& DLC purchases help one would think)

whether S397 manages to completely switch off the opponent's sound like it used to be (up to v.1.126)? I hope that one day that will be the case again.

Question for you, not attacking you or anything or saying you're wrong :)
Do you use HDR in the game?
IMO, HDR makes rF2 look better than any other sim on the market which doesn't have this feature.

With cars that are updated to the new sound system, you can barely hear the opponents unless they are right next to you. (nice Dopler effect as they go by) In fact, that has been one of the early gripes by users. Apparently they got used to hearing the cars as a situational awareness tool.

Downshift protection should be illegal in simracing.

Put shift feedback in first when down/up shifting.

I hate it with magnanimous passion when i shift down 3 times from 6 then miss a corner then asking WHYYYYYYYY, and then seeing i`m still in 4th gear.
Just having the code not processing/rendering the shift should invalidate the purchase of any racing game and immediately give you all the money back for it.
I dont buy a game to be excluded from the decision making process.

I dont need protection in the way of "Computer says NO", i just dont !

What i do need is FEELING when i`m slightly out of the shift window when the car doesnt have any protection on.

In a real car you can feel it.
MAKE THIS FIRST !!!

The shift protection has been a long time coming. As you stated in your complaint, you downshift quickly to add extra braking. This is an exploit that Shift Protection corrects. Add to that the fact that the REAL cars have this feature, then should S397 also stop including other items? (like RPM limiters? Engine goes BANG!) Until we get force feedback shifters, how would one 'feel' when the car's cpu rejected a shift request?
One of the problems S397 faces is up until this point, the transmission model has been rather simplistic. This makes adding features a more complex project. For example the Austin Mini Cooper, the shift protection for that precludes skipping a gear when downshifting. For a car with a H pattern shifter, this is a fairly common practice. 4th to 2nd downshifts should be allowed if the rpms match.

Sorry, hijacking your thread to someone else :D

I never use HDR as it tends to be a PITA in Win10. As in, setting it up for one game ruins it for others.

Are there any particular settings for rF2 you use?

TIA
