EA Sports WRC
will release 3 November, with pre-orders available for the game now and three days early access for those who do. The new title is the first under the control of Codemasters and EA Sports, the former of which developed the DIRT Rally games.

We have already got a full breakdown of the car list, which you can read here. This includes cars from various categories and eras of the World Rally Championship. But now we know which rally stages will be present in the game, both at launch and post launch.

If they do some old stages or some legends modes. I hope they dlc the lombard rac with some spectator stages. Tarmac/snow/and gravel. I hope they do.. And monte tire choices should be more af a los or win situation..

But it is weird how a single two-minute video has taken me from "no way" to "let's see how it pans out". The official marketing campaign has been horrendous up until now.
I think it's hard to imagine it being worse than DR2. I have it on pre-order, because I always buy pretty much all rally games no matter how bad they seem. I actually ended up liking WRC Generations much better than DR2, despite hating it at first.

Well, just this morning I watched Mr. Gosling's take on this rally title, and from this I'll be very reluctant to join and definitely not a first mover.

This nomatter if his critics aimed at EA are just about marketing bullock lies about display possibilities, it ignites my worries about what else of EA BS that lies right under the hood.

Frankly, I don't care whether the game has zero or a gazillion of my favourite 70ies through 90ies rally stages, if it's all jusy about quantity in order to patch up imperfections in the core itself.

I looked over the Finland stages since I know the real ones quite well, especially in the 1990 and 2000 decades. The names I remember are Leustu, Päijälä and Painaa. Leustu stage was shortened in 2013, run again in 2014 and 2019 and matches the length of the virtual one. Lahdenkylä appears to be the reverse layout, there is a village with this name in the finish area of Leustu. Saakoski and Maahi obviously are parts of Leustu, forward and reverse of the same part, I assume.

Päijälä was run regularly since 2014 with similar lengths matching the virtual one, Ruokolahti is a village along the stage and seems to be the reverse layout.

Painaa was a real stage run in 2013 and 2014, but the virtual stage seems to have nothing to do with it and rather be a part of the Leustu stage, since Painaa is located in this area. Look at the probably misspelled name: EA Sports stage list says Painna, real stage and real village is Painaa.

EDIT: The typo "Painna" seems to appear only in the RD stage list and not in the original source from EA. END OF EDIT

If you look over the stage lengths, it appears to be that we have two epic stages, Leustu and Päijälä and the following ones are the epic reverse layout and pairs of forward and reverse layouts of the first and second part of the epic stage.

We know this from DR and DR 2.0.

The long stages in Finland are 100% gravel, while some of the shorter ones also have dirt. If this is accurate, it obviously means that also some of the short stages are unique.

Nah (btw, fleskebacon - isn't that like... butter on fat? ;P )
The "shorter ones" in Finland, I am quite sure are one of the two unique ones.

My guess is, the pink ones are the same, and the red ones are the same. Why there's just one out of the four shorter pink ones with dirt however I have no good explanation for.

EDIT: Guess I should've read @Turbito 's post first... :p

BTW there is a new video and the handling looks totally different than the garbage they have been showing up to now. This actually seems decent:

And some people may finally understand that the way it's played has more impact than the actual physics of the game on the impression it gives. you could make rF2 physics look like crap by playing to it the wrong way.

It should also be explained to people in charge of the communication of this game, putting sequences of bad gameplay on a trailer is absurd.

No Ouninpohja :( (yes I know they banned it for presumably safety reasons, but they had an, albeit very wide, version of the stage in DiRT Rally 2).

If you want to have a look at the Finland stages which apparently will be covered in EA WRC, I would recommend the official Rally Finland Recce videos:

Leustu 2019:

Päijälä 2019:

And if you'd like to spend about 1:45 h about the Päijälä stage, I recommend the spectator guide by Joonas Lönn, which is the most in-depth coverage of this topic I have ever seen, it is intended to help on-site spectators to find the best place to view. But he's telling so much internals about the stage on the way so I would recommend anyway:

EDIT: I just noticed that Päijälä war shortened in 2022 by around 2.5 kms at the finish. Therefore I replaced 2023 Recce video by 2019 version which includes the longer finish section and matches better the length of the virtual stage. The stage analysis video however refers to the shorter 2022 version. END OF EDIT.

The fun thing with Codemasters are that they claim to be "the world-leader in racing simulation", and have no clue about tarmac physics !

That's pure comedy to me !

This is something I find quite curious though.

So, compared to DR and DR2.0, they stick with the Colins Crest stage. But they do add in another one in to Rally Sweden. However. The rally have moved north in real life. So they don't use Colins Crest anymore. In addition, the stage they have added (Hof-Finnskog / Åsnes) is in Norway. It was a part of Rally Sweden when it was in the traditional location. I do find it slightly strange that they decide to add such a stage though.
They probably had done work on it for DR 3 and decided to use it anyway.

Many locations apparently use layouts from 2019 (Monte Carlo, Sweden, Mexico, Finland), some of 2021 (Croatia, Estonia, Greece). Seems like they first started work 2019 on the rallies which are in WRC calendar regularly. It looks like when they started work on a location, they picked two stages from the actual route. This might answer the question why Vargasen made it into the game although it is not used anymore.
I remember that DR 2.0 was released in March 2019. I agree that they most likely included work made for DR 3.
