EA Sports WRC Set for September Reveal

After a lot of uncertainty surrounding whether the new EA Sports licenced WRC game would be releasing, we finally have official word on the title: The game will be revealed next week.

The World Rally Championship is undoubtedly the leading form of off road racing, and has a huge fanbase - enough to warrant an officially licenced video game! The licence had been in the hands of Kylotonn between 2015 and 2022.

But now it falls under control of EA Sports and Codemasters, the latter of whom developed the DIRT titles. Now with the official WRC licence, the rally sim racing community will no longer be split between two sets of games.

The initial release date was 28 July for what was originally called WRC 23, but that came and went with no news. Players were beginning to believe the worst. However, those fears can
now be put to bed.

On the official EA Sports WRC YouTube channel on 5 September at 5pm CEST, the game will be publicly revealed. A teaser video on social media shows three World Rally Championship cars, the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 and Ford Puma Rally1.

Not much else has been confirmed beyond this, but it is possible that we may already know
the release date and more.

EA Sports WRC: November Release?

Reputable leaker billbil-kun made the bold claim that the game would not be called WRC 23 as expected, instead taking on the EA Sports WRC moniker, which proved true! So it is not too much of a stretch to believe they are also correct about other details.

The leaker claims it will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with both a Standard and Champions Edition. But when it will launch? That will be 3 November, and Champions
Edition owners can get early access starting 31 October.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of them all is the price: Most games nowadays are pushing the envelope when it comes to cost. EA Sports WRC on the other hand according to billbil-kun will be relatively inexpensive. The leaker claims it will cost €49.99/£44.99/$49.99.

Considering F1 23 (another Codemasters and EA Sports licenced racing game) launched at £69.99 for the standard edition, that seems almost to be a bargain. Time will tell whether all of this is true. Luckily, that time is only a few days! Tune in to the EA Sports WRC YouTube channel to follow the reveal of the new game.

This happens with all EA games. They rush the devs to get it out. -But if you buy pre-order the upgraded editions you can have 3 days to a week of early access to beta test for them so the game isnt 100% unplayable upon release.

They say the price will be low but guaranteed the "ultimate" version will be $100+ if not packed full of microtransactions.

Ill take that cowardly CEO's advice, "If you dont like it, dont buy it".

Disclaimer: I know this is a rather negative attitude to take but I very much dislike EA these days.

I haven't really liked EA since the 90s... They've long been too much about the dollar and not enough about the quality... I've enjoyed a game here or there, but they usually are long after release when free on EA play...

Part of the reason I'm hoping the lack of a year in the title name gives us a live service title experience is because a new game every year approach hasn't worked for EA's schedules in other series... And their most popular work and well made game hasn't had a sequel in a long time but gets constant updates and DLC packs that serve as new game modes like a new year of WRC could do...

But if it turns out that there's WRC 2 next year... Then we'll get a Madden or NHL experience... Where we can expect the same bugs that don't get fixed in WRC to be in WRC 4...

No idea how it will be. Dirt Rally 1 was awesome. Dirt Rally 2 no so.. Saw the evolution of WRC 5 till Generations. I must say I was impressed how it evolved into a nice 7/10 rally game. Hope Codies will make a good game, and hope it will be released on gamesgate because I still have blue coins from back then ;)

Circuit Racing and it's hardware-scene might be in a good shape, but for hardcore rallying we still have to wait.

I drive 300 hours in Dirt Rally 1, 100 hours in Dirt Rally 2, 180 hours in WRC10 and 120 hours in WRCG... and I don't believe that codemasters will make more real roads, better terrain and variety of road grip, better damage, best sound Dolby ATMOS...

I was expecting a proper presentation, a small event, something, with all that noise... and we got a short trailer with no onboard gameplay...

The website says 18 WRC locations, (17 at launch, Central Europe rally post-launch), 10 modern WRC, Junior WRC, WRC2 cars plus 68 classic rally cars.
Nothing about VR, no VR on steam website either.

Edit: Steam page says VR post launch.

Web site says Unreal Engine with the DiRT Rally series physics.
Very underwhelming reveal...

Can't say my hopes are real high for this one. I would have to be foolish to expect a proper rally sim with good physics, good FFB and polished VR support. Codemasters could probably make it happen with enough determination and effort, but with EA at the publishing helm, I'm inclined to expect a flashy train wreck. Would love to be proven wrong.

Denuvo confirmed, so buy on console if you do want to buy it at all. Game will genuinely run better on 3 year old hardware compared to a gaming PC, that's how bad it is.

You mean the game where it's impossible to touch another car without spinning? Yeah, amazing sim, wow.

Don't loose perspective. The problem isn't the really basic tire model and collision model from what was the absolute state of the art in physics 20 years ago. The problem is that no other developer has ever tried to release any other nascar specific simulator with state of the art hardcore simulator physics in those 20 years. That's the point, nobody has made the effort of release any rally game with state of the art physics and therefore we have 20 years worth of casual gamers games, and the same has happened with Nascar and even motoGP titles.

That a 20 year old game isn't state of art in comparison with current top simulators is meaningless because none of those current top simulators are rally nor Nascar focused specific titles, and because the other developers only have released titles catered to mainstream casual gamers for 20 years therefore NR2003 keeps being the best Nascar specific title simulation despite all it's flaws. Im awaiting for a rally title or nascar title laser focused on a single series with rFactor 2, ACC, or iRacing level physics instead of inaccurate dumbed down physics games meant for mainstream players.

EA Sports is never going to release that kind of game, they don't love motorsport nor realism like reiza, Kunos or iRacing owners do, and while they all need money to operate and also want money they aren't here only for the money. EA sports are a massive corporation that is here exclusively for the money first and for the money second. So, no simulator for us, as we are irrelevant from their profit point of view.

"What are you hoping is shown in the official EA Sports WRC reveal?"

Good VR support with MSAA as in DR2. Improved physics, damage model, improved handling on tarmac. Historical cars besides modern WRC cars. I hope that EA didn't ruin it and made it more arcade. So a lot of hope but I am prepared to get disappointed because it's EA in the end.
Improved physics ???? !!!!
Codies doesn't even use that term, the talk about handling instead :)
Perhaps cause the don't know what it really is !

Proper damage model don't even exist.
