EA Sports WRC Update 1.3.0: Further Performance, Bug Fixes

Aiming to fix further performance issues and bugs within the game, Codemasters will release the latest update to EA Sports WRC, with version 1.3.0 on November 16. Here is all you need to know.

Ever since the title’s release, EA Sports WRC has seen mixed reviews, mostly due to its stability. Whilst some players see more than adequate performance from the game, others struggle to play.

As a result, a steady stream of updates has followed the launch on 3 November. The latest update to EA Sports WRC brings it to version 1.3.0, a rather odd name considering the previous version’s 1.3 numbering. Available to download on 16 November at midday CET, many will hope it addresses the plethora of problems the game faces.

Performance and Bug Fixes​

Much like the previous update, the newest version of the game focuses on performance issues encountered due to the Unreal Engine’s quirks. Further work goes into the shader compilation algorithm that Codemasters and EA are seemingly still getting to grips with. In addition, several rally locations will now run at a better pace thanks to improvements. These include Finland, Kenya, Oceania and others.


Elsewhere, a number of crashes are tackled by this next update. Namely, a selection of menu crashes should disappear with v1.3.0. Furthermore, an issue with Fanatec hardware unable to navigate menus also sees a fix with EA Sports WRC version 1.3.0.

Many will cry out about a set of quality of life improvements. In fact, players may now be able to see the road on brighter stages like Scandia, Mexico and Sweden. The auto-exposure settings should now be better for those using interior cameras.


Furthermore, gameplay gets a number of touch ups in EA Sports WRC update 1.3.0. Firstly, those struggling with late co-driver calls are in luck. The developers are now introducing earlier call settings, providing more time to prepare for corners. Secondly, it seems the AI will now provide a greater challenge. They will reportedly make mistakes less frequently, making for more intense battles.

EA Sports has already announced that the next update will release in early December. Therefore, now is a good time to forward in any bugs you may encounter during your time with the game. The developers have a full list of known issues available to add to here.

Alongside these most notable changes, the update features a great deal of fixes and improvements. You can find the entire changelog below.

Key Fixes​

  • Updated shader compilation to support seasonal variants, to further reduce the possibility of stutter on PC.

  • Made multiple stability and performance improvements across the game on all platforms.

AI​

  • Fixed an issue where AI damage and mishaps occurred too frequently.

Co-Driver​

  • Adjusted Co-Driver call timings for the “Earliest”, “Earlier” and “Normal” settings, to deliver pace notes earlier.

Crash Fixes​

  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash while joining a Quick Play Multiplayer lobby.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash while waiting in the pause menu at Scandia.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash while completing a Season of Career after winning the WRC2 Championship.

Graphics & Visuals​

  • Fixed an issue where brightness in interior views was either over or underexposed in certain conditions at Mexico.
  • Fixed an issue where brightness in interior views was either over or underexposed in certain conditions at Scandia.
  • Fixed an issue where brightness in interior views was either over or underexposed in certain conditions at Sweden.

Input Devices​

  • Fixed an issue where framerate would be negatively impacted by the number of peripherals connected to a player’s PC.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel BMW GT2 V2.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel F1® Esports V2.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec CSL DD with the Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel McLaren GT3 V2.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec CSL Elite Wheel Base.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec GT DD Pro with the Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel BMW GT2 V2.
  • Fixed an issue where in-game menus could not be navigated while using the Fanatec Podium Hub.

Locations​

  • Made a number of performance improvements and optimisations to Finland, including reducing the possibility of screen tearing.
  • Made a number of performance improvements and optimisations to Japan, including reducing the possibility of screen tearing.
  • Made a number of performance improvements and optimisations to Kenya, including reducing the possibility of screen tearing.
  • Made a number of performance improvements and optimisations to Mediterraneo, including reducing the possibility of screen tearing.
  • Made a number of performance improvements and optimisations to Mexico, including reducing the possibility of screen tearing.
  • Fixed an issue where wet surfaces were using dry weather physics at Oceania.

Options & Settings​

  • Changed the default Graphics settings for Reflections to Medium, when using High or Ultra graphics presets, to reduce CPU throttling (note: does not overwrite custom selected settings).

Server Connectivity​

  • Fixed an issue which caused players to receive error CE-108255-1 when connecting to EA servers.

UDP​

  • Fixed an issue where End, Pause and Resume telemetry channels were being re-sent every frame.

User Interface & HUD​

  • Fixed an issue where split timings were comparing driver performance to the overall stage winner, and not the current stage leader.

Unlike Forza, I do have hopes for the WRC to finally work correctly...
What's the problem with Forza?
The only issues they have are:
- physics
- graphics
- AI
- MP

The rest is all peachy.
 
I'm sorry but face facts.

This game is no different from a mobile garbage game, it runs like 720 upscale 4K on PS5.

Graphics are of poor quality, textures are of poor quality, blurriness is a sign of low resolution.

From the day it was announced that this game would be made with Unreal Engine 4, it was obvious that there would be problems.

This poor quality did not come as a surprise.

Note:
I forgot to mention, I'm seeing screen tearing even on console. Extra amateurism is required to achieve this.

i dont think at this point they would start working on the physics, as they might just need to re-do the entire game... it feels AWFUL, all the cars are "floaty", definitely a step down from DR 2.0

It is slightly different from DR 2.0, but not sure about "definitely a step down". When DR 2.0 got out everyone was screaming how better DR 1.0 was.
May be some time to adjust is all it takes to start appreciating new flavor. I personally found it better, esp. on tarmac (still far from ideal though).
 
Not sure what all the handling complaints are about tbh. If anything DR2 was floaty and very bouncy. I race mostly on the soft surfaces and I think they handle pretty good in WRC. I have tried H2 RWD, Group B, Group A, Rally 1997-2001, Rally 2001-2021. They seem pretty decent to me in WRC. I rarely use hand brake (acute HP only and not always) so weight transfer is present as you can easily flick the rear around (not as ridiculously easy as DR2 admittedly).

Only complaint I would have is the brakes seem a little too effective in some cars and they don't unbalance the car as much as one might expect in heavy braking. Its minor though.

I played RBR, DR series for years. I loved them both. This sits between RBR and DR2 in terms of soft surface handling if you ask me. RBR is not perfect either.

Anyway, each to their own, but some of the "foaming at the mouth" toxicity at this place is getting ridiculous.

Get yourself a proper PC. It runs great for me on tripples (side displays stretched of course) 1440p and with almost all settings on ultra it looks amazing. I am getting over 70 fps so no complaints on my side.
 
Good to see. The update frequency is great so far. At this rate the game may leave the beta stage in 2023.

"players may now be able to see the road on brighter stages"... May? The fact that this had to be fixed in a post launch patch is one of the reasons it's still in beta. And there's nothing wrong with it inherently but it should be sold as early access (EA ;))

WRC is feeling pretty good now (except for the RWD cars), hopefully they can squash the remaining performance issues and then move on to improving gameplay features.
The RWD-cars usually just have a bad default setup with almost full locking power-diff. Opening that (probably with some suspension-adjustments for more understeer) usually make the cars behave quite normal. But with all cars the setups seem like a compromise between gravel and tarmac and adjusting the driving height and suspension accordingly can make a huge difference.
