Le Mans Ultimate: Portimão and Toyota Gameplay Showcased

Both the Toyota GR010 Hypercar and Portimão’s Algarve International Circuit have been showcased in more detail for Le Mans Ultimate.

As we edge ever closer to the impending launch of Le Mans Ultimate – the official game of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship – further gameplay footage has been published.

You can discuss Le Mans Ultimate in our new dedicated forum area.

Following stills of the Vanwall and footage of the Ferrari 499P powering around Monza, next up is the reigning WEC title-winning vehicle, the Toyota GR010 at Fuji Speedway the Algarve International Circuit near Portimão.

The Japanese car has been shown for the title previously, but only very briefly during the February release date trailer.

Now we can hear the combination of the twin-turbo V6 and hybrid system in action for the first time within this particular sim – to date, it has only officially featured within Gran Turismo 7. Much like the prior Prancing Horse example, you’d be hard-pressed to hear the difference between this and an on-board video from the real world.

The new footage allows us to further view the exterior of the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, which appears to have been recreated in exacting detail. However, of note in this footage, there are zero interior shots – all footage from onboard the vehicle is via a bumper-mounted camera angle.

Similarly, the venue has been seen previously, however only as still work-in-progress images with visible wireframes.

Toyota GR010 in Le Mans Ultimate

A new track for the Le Mans Ultimate – when compared to developer Studio 397’s venerable rFactor 2 platform – progress on its creation is welcome.

The entire calendar for the 2023 WEC season is scheduled for inclusion, with Sebring, Bahrain, and Fuji yet to be shown within LMU. Likewise, the Glickenhaus SCG007s, Cadillac V-Series.R and every GTE apart from the Ferrari are currently missing in-engine debuts.

Under the stewardship of Motorsport Games, Le Mans Ultimate is set for a release on PC via Steam on 20th February. It is expected to feature an asynchronous multiplayer mode alongside a derivation of the RaceControl online ranking system debuted within rFactor 2 last year.

As expected, your comment is a perfect example of generalization. What you consider as crap works out of the box for other people and what works for you out of the box might still run like dog poo on other machines. AMS2 suffered for quite along time under similar issues and there still comes a notification with allmost every update that old setups don't work and that leader boards need a reset. People seem to have a very short memory but AMS2 development has been a constant hassle for customers and I certainly had to deal as much with json files, folder moving or renaming and whatnot to get the experience that I expected out of it. I never had to deal with crap like that in rF2. I also never had to deal with crap like mods needing fiddeling in json files and extra downloads in rF2 unless I wanted to do some modding. I also never had to deal with abysmal performance and PS1-like tree pop ups like in ACC. Sometimes it helps to take off the rose tinted glasses and really rethink stuff like that. In AC I can't disable certain HUD features without file fiddeling or the use of 3rd party software that I need to download somewhere else. Anyway, if I dig deep enough I could find a reason to call of those software crap. But I don't do it because I know that it takes quite a bit of brain to get what we have on our hardrives these days.
Well AMS2 was for a long time in beta, so it’s understandable it can cause some issues. It’s not 11 years old game, which should be flawless after such long time of continuous support and development. Unfortunately for rF2, it’s developers did get comfortable with user base willing to put in some effort and chase information on internet to make everything work. Game which requires any external resources is crap (like excel). I am curious if LMU will deliver better experience in this regard. I am giving them benefit of doubt. Let’s see in February ;)

Thanks very much, useful info here too, think I was on professional (not that I am!), will check. But anyway, I also like things to be as "real" as possible, like davehenrie even if it tripped me up here lol
So note you can select any preset, change one thing then save it under a useful name.

This new Sim is becoming more and more attractive. I always liked
Portimao a lot. Let's see if rFactor 2's bugs are ported to this or not,
if not, this will be a fantastic Sim I'm sure.

AI, to start with...

AI in the rF2 model is about time and effort... By the player and the devs/modders... But it's the same with any developer, even one where the focus is on SP...

It's a time consuming task that could be spent creating more content for the MP slice of the customers... Which is the largest section for any PC sim racing title... With modders caring far less than S397 have over the years...

When the player puts in the time to a modded track they can have a lot of fun... They just need 3-5 hours of many AI running on the track in most cases for the AI to actually learn the track... Which much like getting the AI skill level right in other titles takes time and puts me off of single player...

With a focussed game like LMU it'll be closer to a F1 series title where their physics are believable and I'd hope that MSGS has it in the budget for the AI to have the tracks pre-learned on release so the SP side can just dig in and enjoy...
