Will GT2 Cars in Assetto Corsa Competizione Be Popular?

ACC GT2.JPG
The recently-announced GT2 pack will release in early-2024 for Assetto Corsa Competizione. But will the DLC get any use online? Have your say.

Recently, Kunos Simulazioni announced the next DLC for Assetto Corsa Competizione, a GT2 Car Pack. A relatively new category seeing increasing grid sizes across Europe, rumours of the addition began in 2022. But it will not be until January of 2024 that the new models hit the virtual track.

However, even before its release, one can only wonder about the success of the upcoming DLC. In fact, we recently took a look at the sometimes forgotten GT4 and single-make classes in ACC. With GT3 remaining the main focus for the game’s community, one can only wonder if GT2 cars will get any use in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

A Precedent Has Been Set

As aforementioned, this is not the first time that an Assetto Corsa Competizione DLC strays away from the GT3 mainstay. Previous Car Packs have featured the likes of GT4 and a plethora of single-make series. The title now boasts a rather eclectic car list. But one would not assume so from the majority of online content and leagues available online.

In fact, the community has always shown a preference towards the GT3 cars. Whilst some communities do shine a spotlight on these less-used categories, they are not the focus for the many. In our previous article focusing on the GT4 class, we pointed out that sim racers tend to stick to the most recognisable and, most importantly, fastest classes.

With GT2 cars spending less time in the real world spotlight, one can only assume GT2 will not get much ACC attention. Furthermore, whilst these new models have far more power than the GT3 class, lap times drop significantly in GT2. As a result, popularity will likely only sway the way of GT3.

Reasons to Love GT2 in ACC

Despite the inevitable, the GT2 Car Pack coming to Assetto Corsa Competizione is still a cause for hype. In a world where motorsport is going the route of complex downforce, the GT2 class is a breath of fresh air.

In fact, the GT2 category is all about providing amateur gentleman racers with a simpler driving experience, all whilst retaining speeds of GT3. With that in mind, the new cars are essentially GT3 models with more power, less aero and a smidge more weight.

This makes for a driving experience more akin to a point and shoot ethos, rather than one in which drivers make up time in the corners. However, much like the Ferrari 488 Challenge already present in ACC, this will require earlier braking points. In a game mainly focussing on a single class of car, this should make for a rare opportunity to re-learn the art of driving in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

So whether or not the new Car Pack for Assetto Corsa Competizione is worth the money depends on one’s situation and interests. We will be sure to give it a whirl as soon as possible when it does drop, however.

In the meantime, we are curious to hear what you think about the upcoming addition. Will the shine of new content wear off quickly, or are GT2 cars in ACC going to be a suprise hit? Early 2024 will tell, but that does not mean that we cannot speculate. Who knows – maybe the added power does draw in some drivers long-term.

I would think GT4s are more compelling but users proved me wrong so not sure what will happen with GT2 where the differences to GT3 are apparently smaller, I still prefer to do a GT4 league then a GT3, but perhaps I'm alone on this.
I agree with you GT4 has more personality, and every GT4 drives so different. You can get to the limit on brake corner with Ginetta but if you drive the M4 you need to drive in a inverse way. Mclaren has electronic automatic brake balance so it drives different too. so it´s sad people just like GT3, and not play with all GT4 jewels. For me GT2 are welcome and i´m anxious to play with them, for sure i enjoy KTM, Mc20 or Brabham.
Counting the days before release!! for sure i´ll buy GT2 DLC...and who knows...maybe we can get Magny and Redbull Ring in the same DLC

I'm excited as ****!!! There are several racing communities out there where it's not that hard to get a group to want to do something different for a change. I really hope I could do a GT4/GT3/GT2 multi class race :p Plus my driving style is much more point and shoot anyway. Doesn't GT2 also not use TC or ABS? I've been driving a TON in AC with the V8 SuperCars and wow I freaking love the intensity of MASSIVE throttle and brake control requirements lol

We all know the answer: for few weeks they are going to be the rage, after that period everybody is going to come back to the gt3.

The gt2 can have some success if they are substantially easier to drive, or a lot faster than the gt3 cars. The same thing happens with any new track: they try the new track for few days or weeks and after that period they come back to the usual monza, spa servers.

AC has tons and tons of cars and tracks, but then you take a look at the servers and most people race in a very small variety of tracks and cars. It was the same in rfactor 1.

I hope they'll be popular enough around the Nordschleife to catch a few decent events there...

But I don't think the ACC crowd is up for something that is too far outside of the GT3 box... So it'll be similar to GT4 after a short period after a few leagues have given the new content a run...

If you ask me, I would go for Super GT series.
There are acrtually 2 classes, GT300, which is basically GT3 with better tires, and GT500, which are GT3 cars on steroids (650-700hp monsers), but with a huge difference. The cars are so called "silhouette racing cars" with purpose-built carbon fibre monocoques. Same like open wheelers. This would surely be a huge success. The only problem I see, is to get all the licenses from japanese.

I love ACC but the problem for me is they didn't listen the community. Many players are asking for new tracks and other things like possibility to have track rotation on dedicated servers .
The community never asked for GT2 i think.

So yes, it will perhaps be very well done, but listening to the players base would have been better, especially since the ACC community is already well established now.

Probably wont be popular but just like the GT4 I'll drive them in SP and have fun with them! Though as a counter point, the GT4 races I joined at LFM were pretty filled up so perhaps that is a niche that GT2 will fill.

Then again, with the nords on the schedule, and the beautiful 24 hr races you can do perhaps it will find a niche there as a multiclass contender?

Anyway, I will have fun with it no matter what.

No. GT2 cars are just GT3 cars that drive far worse because they have less aero. They are unpopular in every game they are in. Nobody wants to struggle and still be a basic GT3 driver.

i thought gt 500 have 500hp, like dtm. i remember both series did a race together.

We got a spanish league with 4 class on same race, GT3+GTC+GT4+TCX and a ranked system where u can up to next class or down to other and i´m anxious to include GT2

Nope i won't buy it, i would buy a new track instantly, they also wont be played on the mp but you at least can race them in a league.
