2008 World Touring Car Championship

Really disapointed that there will be no race at Anderstorp as I was really looking forward to it again this year. Guess the only touringcars I will se live this year is STCC in Gothemburg and maybe Mantorp...

@David: Anderstorp is the only track in Sweden that can really compete in these kinds of events. The others a good but not in the same league. I think (not sure!) that Gelleråsen is the one next in line to when it comes to standards or maybe Mantorp.

Lada`s debut at Valencia

Lada will make their debut in the World Touring Car Championship at Valencia next weekend.

The Russian Bears Motorsport team have developed a Lada 110 for the series and will enter two cars in Spain for ex-Formula Renault 3.5 racer Jaap van Lagen, and Russian Viktor Shapovalov, who contested four WTCC rounds with the team last year in a BMW.

Van Lagen initially shook down the Lada at Zandvoort, and both drivers joined the official WTCC test at Oschersleben this week. Van Lagen split the works SEATs of Jordi Gene and Tiago Monteiro on the timesheet yesterday, with Shapovalov just a second further back.

"Last year's pole position was a 1m48s and I did a 1m52s," van Lagen said of his run at Zandvoort. "There is still more time in the car, I think I could have driven a 1m51s lap."

The team are running their WTCC campaign without any works backing from Lada, although it is believed that the manufacturer could be interested in using the operation as a springboard into the series in future.

Seat TDI`s restricted

The Touring Car Bureau have issued a decision to limit the engine speed of the SEAT León TDI cars. From the next event in Valencia and until further notice, the engine speed of the turbo-diesel SEAT cars will be limited to 4100 revs per minute.

At the same time the Bureau confirmed the decision issued before the previous meeting in Puebla to limit the supercharged air pressure, the fuel rail pressure and the fuel/air ratio to the average maximum values measured measured with the FIA homologated data logger during the Curitiba event. This supercharged air pressure limit will be corrected by the atmospheric pressure ratio between Curitiba and Valencia.

OTHER BUREAU'S DECISIONS

The Bureau have issued two other decisions, which are also valid from the next event in Valencia and until further notice:

- reduction of the homologated minimum weight of the BMW 320si car driven by Alessandro Zanardi by 15 kg;

- the possibility to adjust the weight of the N.technology Honda Accord Euro R car at any moment during the events.

Lada transparent during Valencia

The two LADA 110 cars of Jaap van Lagen and Viktor Shapovalov will be considered transparent during the FIA WTCC races in Valencia.

The Stewards, having received a report from the FIA Technical Delegate, decided to allow the two Russian Bears Motorsport's cars to take part in the event further to the agreement of all the other competitors, however the Russian cars will not be eligible to score points for both the championship and the Independents Trophy.

The reason for this decision was that the intake and the outlet ports of the cylinder head were not conform to the homologation form.

The team, that was visited in Valencia by LADA Motorsport director Vladimir Guba, is due to make the needed adjustments in time for the next championship event, that will take place in two weeks at Pau.

BMW 320D IN NÜRBURGRING 24H

BMW’s WTCC works drivers Augusto Farfus and Jörg Müller will drive a Super 2000-spec diesel-powered BMW 320d this weekend in the Nürburgring 24 hour race.
The car will be run by the Schubert Motors outfit, while Farfus and Müller will share driving duties with Scandinavians Fredrik Ekblom and Stian Sorlie.
The BMW 320d that will be raced in the 24-hours is fitted with the same type of engine that BMW have been using in the BMW 120d car for endurance racing. A machine that proved to be very successful in the 2006 Nürburgring 24-hours, finishing the race in a brilliant fifth place, ahead of many more powerful cars.
This will be Farfus' maiden experience on the infamous 25-km Nürburgring Nordschleife

WTCC in Marrakech in 2009

The World Touring Car Championship's proposed race in the Moroccan capital Marrakech is set to go ahead next year, reports Autosport.
WTCC boss Marcello Lotti has reportedly completed a deal to run a race on the first weekend in May 2009, subject to the race promoters meeting their financial obligations.

The event will be held on a temporary circuit in an industrial area approximately six kilometres south of the city centre. Lotti said: "The plans have been inspected and I have received a very good report. It's a great chance for the WTCC to expand into another continent."

With the inclusion of the Moroccan round on this date means that the proposed start of the 2009 season in Brazil could be as early as February.

Anybody have some more info about Subaru entering the WTCC in 2009?

On RTLGP there was a small report on this.

Yes i heard it as well. Pretty surprising if you take the fact that Subaru only has 4WD cars and those are not allowed in the WTCC (as long as the FIA not suddenly changes the rules :D)

But would be great to have another big motorsport brand entering the WTCC. The last time that RTL GP had a scoop was with them revealing that A1GP had ferrari engines

OSCAR NOGUÉS TO RACE IN PAU

Oscar Nogués Farré is the first competitor of the new SEAT Eurocup to be awarded with a participation in the FIA WTCC. The 31-year old Spaniard will race in Pau at the wheel of a petrol-powered SEAT León TFSI run by the SUNRED Engineering Development team.
After his fellow countryman José Manuel Pérez-Aicart was given the same opportunity in Valencia for having won the 2007 SEAT León Supercópa (he performed very well, finishing both races in 13th and 14th position respectively), Nogués was awarded with the WTCC participation because he emerged as the best driver in the first round of the Eurocup at Valencia, where he won Race 1 and finished second in Race 2.
Nogués is not a rookie in the WTCC; in the previous seasons he had been already awarded twice with WTCC participations for his two consecutive titles in the 2005 and 2006 Supercópa. He raced at Valencia in 2006 and Monza in 2007 and his best result was 12th in last year's Monza's Race 1.

Very cool guy Oscar. He was the one we had a taxiride with last year on Monza. Did very well during that weekend as a rookie!

Cazenave replaces Tielemans at Pau

Olivier Tielemans will not drive the World Touring Car Championship race at Pau this weekend. He will be replaced by Laurent Cazenave in the Wiechers-Sport BMW 320si.
"Tielemans cannot race in Pau because he is recovering from a minor health problem. Luckily we had the opportunity to make an agreement with Cazenave in such a short time," Wiechers-Sport team manager Dominik Greiner said.

"We are happy with this, because we believe that the team will benefit a lot from his experience of the track."

The 33-year old Cazenave has never before raced in the WTCC but has raced a lot on his home circuit Pau. He has achieved good results at the track in the French Super Production Championship and the FFSA GT Championship

Coronel still with the old engine

Tom Coronel is not happy with the Seat leon.
He should have got a new engine at Valencia but is still to drive the old one.
Seat sportschef Jamie Puig came with the statement that with the new technical rules at Valencia they did not have the time to spend attention on the 15 BHP stronger petrol engine.
And with the two race weekend rule Tom knew that he would have to race at Pau with the old weaker engine.

"This is not acceptable said Tom Coronel"

A diesel for Tom as well then ?
