Reason i picked the escort is im useless at car setups on assetto & this has limited setup options & i picked brands hatch indy because with such a small grid i think the best chance of having an entertaining race is to have a short simple track.
Hopefully this combo will bring the grid closer together & bring some much needed action like we had on f1 sunday night :)

Just had a quick test with this combo. Should be another fun one, not sure yet whether drifting around the corners or driving through them is the way to go for best lap time but the former is certainly a lot of fun.

Based on my initial runs it looks like lap times will be around the 56-57 mark, probably that will come down with more track time but with that in mind it would make for a 48 lap race to fit into our 45 minute race time-frame. With that in mind I was just wondering whether there might be some value in splitting it into two shorter races rather than one long one. If the latter was the preferred option my suggestion would be to run the first race as we have done all the others IE 20 minutes practice, 20 minutes qualifying and then a 24 lap race but with the second race just being a random grid to shake things up a bit.

Either way there will be a mandatory pit stop. Not sure yet on whether fuel or tyres last the distance as haven;t tested it with the online fuel and tyre usage setting.

I am more than happy with one long race but just thought I would throw it out there to see what others thought.

Setups in Assetto are certainly far more advanced than F1 and the handling of the cars makes them a different kettle of fish too. The setup area of F1 is still the area that is lacking at the moment as it has hardly changed since F1 2009 and really needs some improvements to bring it up to the level of the more advanced games \ sims like Assetto and pCars. I am hoping F1 2018 will have something more in depth as there is so much that they could add to make it even better than it is this year.

Two races might be fun... I'd want to check the fuel and tyre usage online first though. Also want to check the pit stop time, 24 laps with a mandatory stop might put people down a lap if they have to stop early.

I don't think fuel will be an issue as it's such a short lap but I haven't tested it yet. Everyone would have to stop so that lap would be made up when the rest of the field pits but yes it could be an issue on such a short lap but then that will be the same in the longer race too.

AC is such a racer, we should skip F1 fun races. I'm not interested in that game anyway however i can imagine some of you guys are still happy to race it after a season.

My suggestion for this one is:
Practice
Qually
Sprint race let say 16 laps
Endurance race let say 41 laps with a roling start grid otherwise to results of a sprint race.
Today some practice scheduled :coffee:

F1 is way too good to abandon now Marcin.

Nice idea but unfortunately the game does not allow using the result of a previous race to set the grid of the next, each one has to be set up as an individual race and a new lobby created for each and its too much pfaffing about to get everyone in the right position on a formation lap to match the previous race result manually.

Is just is... :x3:
Anyway, i got some experience with hosting so it not a problem, it is only a matter of coupe extra minutes, we can skip practice session before the race for example.
Like You said we just start slowly setting up the grid on first lap and then roling start as normal after the last corner. First guy is a pace car running half speed. Below is an example, video from Porsche Supercup race. It all begins about 45 min. Check it out:

To be perfectly honest I'm not a fan of these type of starts. Been in plenty myself some were fine but others a mess and it just adds unneccesary time to the whole thing and leads to confusion. Rolling starts can be real messy. Plus you lose temperatures in your tyres during the formation lap which makes the starts even more dodgy.

The practice session is really there for anyone that has not had any chance to practice online and to allow drivers to get some rythm before the quali kicks off. I'm ok to get rid of it of others feel the same way though.

2 Shorter races would add to the fun most definitely, we could always start practice 8.30pm uk if that helps

So how is everyone getting on here then? I reckon there will be a hat full of errors in this race.

Best time so far is 56.038 (so close to that 55 but I lost 3 or 4/tenths in that final corner which is very tough to get right lap after lap). Generally around a tenth either side of the mid 56's on a regular basis but this car really is difficult to keep consistent lap after lap and very easy to just overdo it if you try to push too hard for those extra tenths.

It's a tough car and circuit mix. I've managed a 56.0 but am not able to do them consistently.

Also, all the corners are tough to get right...not just the last one. lol
Definitely agree with that. I really enjoy turn 1 although it is very easy to drift wide if you get the line wrong. All the turns after that are ones where you so easily lose time. I am regularly up on my best lap through T1 but then gradually the following corners eat away at it and you cross the line in the red lol.

Overtaking is going to be quite tough as well, the line's through the corners are very tight for best speed and overtaking off line will make corner entry tougher so I can see a fair bit of swapping of positions after an overtake as a result.

Should be interesting.

Well, I finally had a lap quicker than 56, but only one out of about 75 laps...lol
This car is tough to be consistent with, that's for sure.

I do think two short races will be better than one longer one. The chances of having some good close racing will be doubled if we race twice.

I don't like the idea of a rolling start though. those are so boring.

I think a shorter sprint type race to start with the grid based on the qualifying session and then the second race under a random grid would be the longer one which gives anyone at the back that would not normally be there a better chance to work their way to the front.

My suggestion would be 18 laps and then 32. The 50 combined laps would give us a race time equal to our usual single races.

Would there be a mandatory pit stop in both races, or just the long one?
