Can i scale down the resolution in game ?

Not sure if the wording is correct, but here's the thing:

My main monitor broke and i'm currently using an old 1280x1024 monitor, which has different dimensions.
It stretches the picture/text vertically a lot and i would like to tighten it up if possible,
so the ''play screen'' is tightened up and i have black borders around the ''play screen''
or smth like that. Is this doable ? Probably not, huh ?
Tried in windowed mode, but the window size is not adjustable...

My pc tech knowledge is basic, so excuse if this is a stupid question.
Never dealt with this before.

there's an option in config called "Widescreen UI". In your case, just disabled it.

That box is greyed out and empty. I can't access it. So i guess this means it's already disabled.

Will unticking that box remove the black borders? I'm having the same issue
