Daytona 24 Hour Discussion Thread

Hanson's pace is terrible :|
he did 1:44 to 1:45 when others did 1:39 and now he did 1:43 while others was doing 1:38 to 1:40 !
and now another 1:44 :| he has no traffic in front of him!

and finaly an almost 1:41:|

Gee Farjam your a tough crew chief ;)
lol

so #23 car fu.....up while hanson driving it(tyre and the side bodywork), so he pitted and Alonso start 4 laps down, also the car is not fixed completely and it's still damaged! and it will have bad effect on aero

alonso's luck strikes again! even before his start!

What happened to the #23? I walked away for 20 minutes and missed it.

But I agree, Hanson's pace was really bad in his stint.
it was a tyre failure ,it seems he was driving some corners too wide and trying to get back by braking when it happened ,
overall in his stint , he lost 3 position and almost 2 second per lap to everyone(before the incident), after that the tyre blew, then have to get back to pit with that tyre, then pit stop time +repair time , and it was how much time and ground he have killed...
nando started while 4 laps down to leaer, now 3 laps down , 11th place , lapping in 1:38 - 1:39

Yeah i think they said Hanson's times were in the 1:41-1:43s which is just absurd. Really hurt the team.

RR tires on the prototypes keep blowing out at the same spot on the track. It's happened 11 times now. Continental are blaming the teams. I think Continental have brought crappy tires.

Starting to think the same. Can't be the teams fault when it happens to everyone.

Because physics...think about it for a moment, your right rears on an oval are going to burn up because they hold the most, not only energy transfer but will be relied on for holding the most lateral force.
You can't due to regulations have a different tire on the outside as the inside so that will take some setup to adjust for that.

It's always been a problem when it's hot at Daytona.

Granted Conti's have not been the best in some opinions overall and been lambasted in the past for having compounds that wouldn't get up to temp and acting like ice when it rains or cools off.

A side effect of toe-in on the right rear wheel once up on the banking is to effectively ‘drag’ the inside shoulder of the tyre across the track. Added to the negative camber it may be the cause of the tyre failures if excessive?

car #23 summary from an amateur person's view :D
first stint it was hanson and he was good, lots of his laps were 1:39 - 1:40
second stint it was lando and he killed it in rain, almost fastest driver on wet (for example 3 seconds faster that stroll and some tense faster than the leaders in most of his laps )
third stint it was hanson, and he did terrible .... lost 3 position, and was 2-3 seconds slower to everyone in every lap (he was doing lots of 1:44 - 1:45 while others laping in 1:38 to 1:39) in his class during his second stint, and the tyre gone and the right side of the car damaged (and maybe suspension) then he pitted to repair and driver change
fourth stint it was nando, starting 4 laps down, his lap times were good but not one of the fastest(almost 1.39 to 1:41), then brake failure , (was it because of that earlier damage to the exact point , rear-right? i dont know)... and he start again 28-29 laps down to the leader :|
fifth stint it was lando , he did some great laps (his team best lap overall -1:38:078 -and 4 tense slower than the race fastest lap) and lots of under 1:39 laps and he is still driving and now they are 25-26 laps behind the leader

22th overal position, behind 7 GTLM cars :D
