Dead power supply

Hi Everyone

I've got a Microsoft Sidewinder FFB Wheel that the power supply died a while ago in. I've taken the case off the transformer and found a capacitor on a bit of a lean (I've read online that this is a sign the capacitor that's failed). Has anyone replaced a capacitor before? Is it really as simple as a tiny bit of soldering in a replacement?

Any thoughts/experience much appreciated, cheers

Hi. Often a problem in monitors you can have problems due to cheap Electrolytic Capacitors having 'blown'. Look underneath the capacitor to see if you can see where part of the bung has been forced out. You'll often see the top has also slightly bowed.

'Dead' power supplies of this type are though often the result of an internal thermal fuse having blown. This will be situated in very close proximity to the transformer.

To be honest, for the price of a suitable replacement I would advise taking this route.
