F1 Aerodynamics fact

Chris Jenkins

Driving til the wheels fall off
Without aerodynamic downforce, F1 cars have sufficient power to fly once they exceed 160 kph. The cars usually race at over 300 kph. When a car is traveling over 160 kph, it car can generate enough downforce to hold itself to the ceiling of a tunnel and drive upside down.

I know it'd never be done, but I want to see this!

Yes, F1 car can drive upside down when we're talking about forces... but just have a look on engines, they really can't work this way ;)

And about flying... that's it, but why removing wings? Just set them to generate upforce, not downforce :p but then it isn't longer a car... just a plain (for sure F1 is kind of plane with wings generating force to the ground, not from the ground).

And normal road cars almost all generates upforce (maybe some sport cars not). In motorsport it's all about wings.
