Ford Performance unveil the stunning new Mustang that is set to take part in the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Series.

Revealing to the American media at Ford HQ in Dearborn, Michigan, the latest piece of racing technology from the Blue Oval certainly does an impressive job of catching the eye, even more so thanks to the efforts of former NASCAR champion Tony Stewart playing to the packed crowd as part of the spectacular introduction to the world of the newest NASCAR competitor for 2019.

Under development for some time now and set to replace the trusty Fusion that has competed in NASCAR successfully for several years, the reveal yesterday marked something of a milestone in the history of this iconic car, with Ford having just celebrated completing the 10 millionth production Mustang on Wednesday of this week, a remarkable feat for one of the most enduring models in the history of the brand.

With Ford having something of a revival of fortunes in the premier American racing series this year thanks to the efforts of Stewart-Haas Racing's Kevin Harvick, the manufacturer hope the new car can propel them back into regular contention for championship honours right from the off, a feat often proving difficult in the first year of a new model in NASCAR racing:

“You put in the due diligence, put in the effort, in the hope it will perform better, obviously,” he said. “It’s like everything in life. You put your blood, sweat and tears into it. But you really don’t know until you go out and line her up and see what she does. With the technology and everything we have in today’s day and age, we think it’ll be bigger and better than we’ve ever had" said Ford driver Clint Bowyer, who drives for Stewart-Haas Racing this season.

Ever since we announced in April that Mustang would be going to the Cup level in 2019, we’ve heard nothing but positive feedback,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance motorsports.

“Our Ford Performance team has worked hard with the Ford Design team to create a Mustang that will be competitive on the track while remaining true to its proud heritage.

"We can’t wait to see it winning races in the NASCAR Cup Series next year.”
The new Mustang will debut at the opening round of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Series at the Daytona 500 on February 17th.

I wish NASCAR would put some effort to go back to being "stock car". Having the Supra (the real thing) competing there with real Mustangs and Camaros would be amazing.
Balancing aero would be very difficult but would worth it

Having a Supra in there is like having a NASCAR Corvette though ( or, yknow, a BMW M8 GT car  ) - just doesn't seem to fit. Is anyone going to want to buy a sportscar after watching a NASCAR race?

At least the Mustang looks vaguely like an actual Mustang - the "Supra" doesn't look anything like a real next-gen Supra. Is that really going to help when I keep reading about NASCAR having problems?

Mebbe they could start with TA1 cars & work them into oval racers if they really want to go down this route...

People nowadays dont want to to buy the cars racing there after watching a race either. ;)
"What wins on sunday sell on monday" is a myth. As long as you recognize the brand it's a good enough marketing.
Also the Supra will be in NASCAR next year... just with this ugly brick design like all other cars.

IMO, I don't care if I get disliked for this comment but Bill France Sr and Jr have turned in their graves at the sight of this, the Camaro and the Supra being Cup cars

If the land yachts, that represented the series through it's history, have all been extinct since the turn of the millennium, NASCAR Cup cars should be all be based on medium sized (in US term) family 4-doors, regardless if they are all are sold as FWDs like they are in V8 Supercars

Both Camaro and Mustang looks worse than the Supra from the Xfinity Cup, it looks nowhere like a actual car and lets face it, Cup Series died with Dale

Maybe NASCAR should do what they do in Argentina, race in cars that have been out of production in almost 40 years and they still have their fans over their 2-liter counterpart - in NASCAR's case, they could race silhouette of cars that had been in production in 1993 (ie the Thunderbirds, Lumina, Grand Prix)
