Welcome to the central discussion thread for the 2019 FIA Formula One Chinese Grand Prix.

The 1000th Grand Prix in the history of Formula One - the Shanghai International Circuit plays host to the third round of the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship this weekend - and the field of drivers have plenty to play for following an exciting start to the new season.

Despite the 1000th race celebrations set to take place over the weekend, the serious business of Grand Prix racing remains, and Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc will be keen to fight back following a difficult result last time out in Bahrain.

Can Mercedes keep up the current results? Will Ferrari finally fight back? Are Red Bull able to mount a serious challenge? All these questions and more could be answered this weekend..

Looking forward to the weekend, only a few hours till FP1! Hoping Sainz can finally get a result on the board and fortunes improve for Hulk and DannyRic.

Red Bull has found the cause of the problems they were having in Bahrein, so hopefully Max is able again to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari.

After 2 practise sessions it shows the gap on top is smaller. Looking at the longruns I vote for Max, without orange glasses!

Still thinking that Williams is sandbagging. They will win the 1000th race of F1 in style, with Kubica and Russel lapping the whole field twice.

About practise, Ferrari seems slow in the short corners!

I'm sure he'll find his form / right setup very soon, this is a class driver it goes without saying.

Honestly, at this point of the season the teams shouldn't have a number 1 and a wingman. For like the first 5 to 7 races, it should simply be the faster one being prioritized each weekend. If it's always the same guy fine, you have your team order. If not, like with Mercedes right now, simply let them race.

This whole discussion around Vettel and Leclerc and who's faster and who's better and who has a more realistic shot at the WDC is really annoying right now.

vt1 and vt2 Max the best on medium tires, on the long runs so Red Bull is back.
