G29 not working in Assetto Corsa

In CM, the controls work perfectly and I can configure the settings and all the keybindings. But when I go ingame, nothing seems to work, not even one button or axis works. I dont know what to do, please help!

Sometimes, launching Assetto Corsa from Steam (instead of CM),
then rerunning its controller wizard will restore G29.
Other times, with the game NOT running,
delete or rename Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\
then relaunching will recover G29,
but that will also lose other settings.

One problem is that Assetto Corsa stores USB controls by "__IGUID" values,
which change if/when Windows re-enumerates USB devices
that do not report unique USB serial numbers.
