In a race series that is heavily favoured towards a car being race pace setup you can't then give more and more opportunities to those that have chosen race pace. You do no problems having a shorter race format as that actually will equal out more. But increasing the maximum by 40km? Well Tim reached 2 spots higher, Manolis 3 in those 40km when Rob has already retired. That could be championship changing, especially when we've had final round and race showdowns in the past two seasons.
If you'd rather, you may as well revert back to the reverse grid race 3 where everyone had quali pace and the races were over in all of 15 minutes or something.
This is all common sense stuff, but apparently no one bothers to think deeply enough about it to give a sh*t.
