This is a Endurance event :
Qualification start time: GMT 19.00 ( 30 min )
Race start time: GMT 19.30 (36 Laps Approx. 80 min)

Important Please Read

for this event we are using a modified version of the original Mercury Cougar mod made by Team 21 and Freinds, permission was granted by Team 21 to Yves Larose to make the modifications to the mod but an official release was denied but Team 21 agreed to a private distribution of it so therefore the download link of the modified mod will be pm to each participants upon sign up. it is strictly forbidden to give the download link to anybody and/or to upload the modified mod on any site its important cause its Yves reputation that is at stake here for future permission. the modifications are the following

- Tyres wear have been modified to suit the new fuel tank capacity and fuel consumption.
- The fuel tank have been reduce to 80 ltr compare to the 140 ltr of the original mod.
- The fuel consumption have been made higher then the original mod.
- The hud is now in English.
- Liveries have been add.

Note 1: tyre and fuel will be set at normal
Note 2: only the skins that come with the mod please, the first 20 sign up have to pick a different liverie after that the next 20 sign up follow the same rule. to see the liveries choice Click here
Note 3: Unpack simply extract the GameData file to the main GLT folder and let it override if asked if you already have the mod install it is recommended that you move it to a temporary location before installing the new one, it is also recommended that after the event you replace the modified version of the mod by the original one to avoid any conflict in further event using it.
Note 4: We are using the SIMBIN lobby for this event. See here how to switch lobby
Note 5: Qually is an unlimited lap type of qually.
Note 6: Racing Room must be given to all driversand this works both ways. Divebombing into and across a corner denies people the chance to make the corner correctly just as much as someone obliviously (or deliberately) cutting the nose off of another driver who has achieved partial overlap fairly.
On this track at the exit of turn 1 there is a big white kurb you are allowed to put 4 wheels on it but not pass that kurb, at the inner loop you are allowed to put 4 wheels on the white kurbs but not pass them, at the exit of turn 10 there is also a big white kurb again you are allowed to put 4 wheels on it but but not pass it. these are the only exception on the track please refer to the track map below.

Pic1 and Pic 2

Note 7: The pit entry and exit is a bit tricky on that track, you are required for the pit entry to obey the pitlane line that start between turn 10 and 11 and to maintain a decent speed to avoid any incident. On the exit please stay to the right of the white line until it end and be very mindful of possible upcoming cars.

Right. I'm thinking about pulling out of this one gent's. I'm not having fun in this car at all.

Paul are you using a wheel or controller - controller would be hard work, if it'd a wheel your using look at online setups for Yves Congar (forgotten last word )- its a great setup, if it's not for you, it's not for you but if anyone can help I'm sure they will. Yves setup has 23 degrees of lock I increase this to 26-27 because I'm using 900 degrees on my wheel, if your using a lot less it will need to be reduced a lot, hope that this helps a bit.

Paul Barrass dont be put off by the car or times we have a very varied set of times. it took me a number off laps to get a feel for it.. last night i shaved about 5 seconds off my time. You do have to throw the car around, get a feel for where it slides and how much gas to give:)

the server will be up all week to practice

Paul Barrass Yves setup is quite good mate. I've had to turn the degrees of lock all the way down to 5 as I use 270 degree on my wheel rotation.

I'd also suggest braking very early, get the car into the corner, then be gentle with the gas as you accelerate out. As the Cougar has a lot of torque, you can even use 3rd gear out of the corners, which will help stop the rear wheels spinning up and losing grip.

Yves setup is here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/gtc76-mercury-cougar-setups.51301/
you drop it into the GTL\UserData\<USER NAME>\Settings\Watkins folder

Try and join us online tonight, especially if you can get on TeamSpeak, and we'll try to help you

Guys don't worry about spinning the tyres up, your car will only do about 13 laps on a full tank and your tyres will need to be changed also,(all 4) you will not burn them out will the rear sliding in a few corners every lap, it helps the car turn ..
Use the power on the rear wheels to turn it, load up the car and drive through the corners..

  1. Normal fuel. 2 pit stops will be required, approx 12 laps each stint.. (you won't make it on a one stop strategy..) 80 ltr is a full tank and will get you about 13 laps (14 laps if you conserve fuel)... pit on lap 12 to be sure or before...
  2. Normal tyres. You will be able to make it to 14 laps per tyres set depends on how you drive..you will need to change tyres when you refuel.. both the fronts and rears wear at about the same rate.. by about 10 laps in each stint i was on about 15 % wear left and the car was starting to slide and i was loosing about a second or more a lap and some corners the car was sliding when pushing hard...

Ives setup is perfect to me. 23 steering lock for 900 is ok in my opinion. Increasing can be very risky and can damage the tyres and make the car unstable. Such big car should have smaller steering lock. I found somewhere that steering ratio in real Mercury Cougar is 20.4 so to be as real as possible in game should be:

900 / 2 / 20.4 so it is 22 degrees for 900 degrees wheel.

Kjell Eilertsen

If it worked well for you in the Chevy Monza, 900/28 or close should work also on the Mercury I belive. That setting corresponds to a steering ratio of 16:1, and that's aproximately what I use in both those cars, although with less wheel rotation (720/21):

Steering ratio = (Wheel rotation:2):steering lock

(900:2):28=16.07 (steering ratio 16:1)

(720:2):21=17,14 (steering ratio 17,1:1)

If you want to try a steering ratio of 17:1 (less direct tan 16:1) with 900º, try 26º steering lock [(900:2):26=17,3] or 26,5º [(900:2):26,5=16,98]

33 Sign ups so far !!!! Thats fantastic - testament to all the hard work put in by Stuart before and especially Rupe more recently, thankyou.

I also think it has a lot to do with GTL being an 'older' game meaning not only the appeal is to more people to come back to it but and its a BIG BUT the older software caters for a much wider audience in terms of hardware that will run it - remember not everyone has the budget, not everyone is a mad sim-racing head who want to spend fortunes on it as a hobby - you have to let people start at all levels - If i'd not been allowed in RD races with a crappy pc and controller, then a second hand non ffb Sidewinder wheel in 2008 I wouldn't still be here now and nor would the people who I've referred to the site, many of whom are not even simracers but use other parts of the site. Next time I hear the crazies at the top talking about pulling 'old' games I'd recommend they bear in mind what I just put.... of course at times the 'crazies' I mention, who I actually do have a lot of respect for would probably me rather not have been here at all ! I seem to go through life unintentionally treading on toes at times, its just something I have to live with !!!
