Another good event, even if I do say so myself.
Race 1
Limited (no) practice time in the Skyline, so I was busking it a bit, but worked out OK. Got a few decent and consistent laps in and kind of broke away slightly from the pack behind, and was tiny slower than the pack in front, so ended up a little lonely, but round Lime Rock Mt, the time just seems to evaporate because it's such a blinding track to run on. Each lap, even though I could see it on the timings, simply doesn't feel like nearly two minutes. Over TS, I suddenly heard a yowl like a Russian Timberwolf who's just seen his evening meal of Peasant shin up a tree, and knew that Steve had had a bit of a mare, and thrown away a win, but it was only when I glanced at the lap counter that I realised that the race was prety much over.
Race 2
Again the Opel wasn't overly familiar, but I knew it better than the screaming Nissan. This was an absolute joy to drive, even if it was just off the pace of the Escorts overall. After a slightly bodged quali, I had an absolute hoot in a right old ding dong with Phil in the Escort & Carlos in the other Opel - getting in front, making a mistake just long enough for them to get back past, regrouping and catching up again, about 6 or so laps of nose to tail goodness, great stuff chaps.
After getting my nose in front, those two rejoined battle and allowed me to get a little breathing room while they concentrated on each other, and so I brought it home for a 3rd behind the Hutchinator & Warren in their Escorts.
A fitting finale to the 72's - a very, very good and well balanced car set.
I hope to see you all next week for the new series that's starting, some low powered, twisty turny, short course action as the Elites roll into town.
