So far as I am aware, the physics engine will indeed stay the same, with appropriate adjustments and features available to make the experience less daunting for those coming from a more casual position.
Yep, no reason to change it anyway, their isi code probably have been changed way too much to just drop it

For those worried about combining the two approaches, others with really long memories will remember the original GTR had an arcade mode as well as a simulation mode.
A simulation mode that had to be updated by the NAP ;)

Listed in the credits for GTR2 is Karsten, Marko, Jay Ekkel (who had a big role in R3E until last year), and Klaus Wohlfarth (owner of KW/RaceRoom AG).

So, while the game was almost entirely developed by other people, a few names remain.

True. Karsten and Marko were Beta testers. Not sure Klaus Wohlfarth had any active role - he is given "special thanks" along with all the FIA GT teams and drivers, so perhaps more to say thank you for the use of the KW logo.

yeah, I really hate this kind of announcements with one year ahead, what I am supposed to do now?1 YEAR?
The same thing you were doing before you heard the announcement......continue playing the games your enjoying ;)
I am really excited about this announcement, not only for GTR3 but for Raceroom.....more people working on features that can potentially be carried over to either product which could lead to quicker developments of both titles.

I honestly don't like compromises and SimBim always on the Sim side in my head. Hmmmm...

"The product at the end of the day needs to appeal to both sides, hardcore racer as awell and the casual gamer."
I agree, but there's not enough $$$ in it for them anymore with the cost of development to just justify a PC only release. It sucks, but it's happening more often these days.

If RD get the opportunity again (or if there are any S3 lurkers loitering) would it be possible to please get some clarity on the future of R3E? Am I putting the puzzle together rightly or wrongly, in thinking that they are going to run both at the same time, aiming GTR3 at the AC/Pcars area of the market, and R3E at becoming a proper iRacing alternative? (And I ask that with a huge bias at wanting a more European iRacing alternative for people who aren't as financially-blessed) :geek:

As far as I can tell, and with what I've heard, R3E is setting itself up to be a direct competitor to iRacing without the yearly subscription. We should be getting the first arrival of the ranking/licensing system sometime this year and R3E will integrate some of the technology developed for GTR3 and use it for its own purposes. They will be two completely different games, with R3E offering a multiplayer centric experience while GTR3 will most likely offer a more standard experience with both single player and multiplayer in the form seen in all the other games we play like AMS, AC, rF2, etc.

It's still all very much speculation at this point but I wouldn't worry too much about the future of R3E. The commitment to a licensing system means they're in it for the long haul so hopefully both products will be able to grow in parallel and bring an experience that can cater to different sim racers depending on their preference.

YES YES YES, UE4 greatness. Finaly a racing game with UE4 (well there is kartkraft with UE4 and it looks amazing, but this game as been silent too long...).

This is great news.
But
If they're not already in 2/3 years of development already, I find it hard to see how they can release a decent game within 2018 wit it being what sim racers today would like to see. If pCars2 by some miracle manage to go as well as it looks, everyone else has got tough competition.

Time to stop wasting time, money and effort trying to develop you own graphics engine from scratch and get real with Unreal engine. I'm looking a you Kunos.

Well I think this will be good for sim racing. This title could potentially sell very well and could likely be one of the best console racing games. I think this could help promote and grow sim racing. However, to make a title fun and enjoyable on a console I think you need to have some special settings/numbed down sensitivity for controllers to work well, and I also think that having slightly more forgiving physics helps as well.

Also, if someone is a more casual console user and just wants to hop on, drive, and have fun, chances are it is more enjoyable to not have to race in a dumbed down beginner mode with a whole lot of assists. I just picture someone who is casual with a controller and only occasionally plays having more fun with a title like the f1 series on intermediate or advanced settings rather than something like AMS rfactor2 etc and having to lower the ai speed to the lowest settings and add all the driving assists to compete.

I think it is quite likely that having the physics as accurate as possible may not be the top priority, but an overall fun and accessible experience that blends a compromise between casual and hardcore will be the priority. Just my guess.

"2003 GT Season" as an option in the game is an improbable but beautiful wish.

Veeeery nice, also glad to hear SimBin and S3 will be sharing tech. Also while I'm rather pleased in many ways with the current generation of sims I'm glad we've got a lot more to look forward to now than DLC.

No worries mate! It will be on Pcars level

With that engine we should be able to get all the bells and whistles when it comes to LED numbers/strips etc on the cars during night racing. Not sure if any sim has that already? Would look epic during endurance/night racing. Not as important as physics and FFB of course, but with that engine maybe night races will be very immersive. :)
