Love mine! I use the 3.5mm jacks b/c the USB creates too much static. Keep an eye out and I've seen them cheaper.
The JBL J88i are affordable and the sound quality is excellent, but I had to send mine back for a torn ear pad cover. Very thin "pleather" material.

Really late to the party here...
But i use SteelSeries for all of my gaming stuff apart from wheels. I've got their mousemat, keyboard and mouse...
So i wanted to keep in line and get a headset, but i needed it to be wireless and wanted it by SteelSeries... So i went ahead and bought the SteelSeries H Wireless - really pricey in comparison to some but it's phenomenal, i use it for loads of stuff now!

Not sure what you consider a reasonable price for a headset, but I bought the Plantronics Gamecom 780s a year ago and love them. They are wired, provide 7.1 Dolby surround sound, and the mic works flawlessly. The price and cord length (~3 ft) are the only downsides in my opinion.
EDIT: Looks like the updated version is the Gamecome 788, which can be had for 35 pounds (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plantronics-GameCom-788-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00LNJZTTY/ref=dp_ob_title_ce).
