F1 2013 Penalty System - What is illegal blocking and illegal overtake?

I'm new to F1. I've received the illegal blocking and overtake during the competition. Also, I've been requested to drive through the pit for a penalty in one of the challenge of proving ground mode. Just want to know how to avoid these penalties and how does these rules actually work.

blocking, going too slow (or staying stationary) in front of another car

illegal overtake - passing someone who is on track while you are off track, or passing under a yellow flag

As Karl says, plus you must serve your penalty within 3 laps of receiving it. You cannot pit stop at the same time.

Your engineer should warn you that you must come in to server the penalty, or you will be disqualified
