Seems no longer to be working lately, though only partially. Some show, some don't, as below. Both linked from giphy.com. They still show up in the rich text editor.

In order to support SSL we have to proxy embedded content to ensure it is served securely. There is typically one of two reasons why one will not embed;

1) it is too big. I have the limit set quite high but very long / large result

2) the url says gif but the content isn't really a gif. Often it will be something else such as an mp4.

They should work now, Just paste the url in your post and it will be picked up when you submit it or use the media button rather than the image button on the editor toolbar.
